Sleep, it was luxury I didn’t have.
I could hear it then, in the dark light of night, in the dusky morning…
The click of the trigger, the smell of her blood, the sound of the rain.
I never thought I would see her again.
She was a ghost.
She was dead.
When Maggie Wright pushed her way into my life, she brought the phantom with her, and I was helpless to her pull.
Everything I had, all of it, had been taken from me ten years ago. I had nothing but the shirt on my back, the memories that still burned through my veins, and the regret I drowned in every day.
I am Ryan Hartford…and I have nothing left to lose.
I have read the Still Life series by A.M. Johnson, and I liked them all (Book 2 – Still Water was my favorite). The stories had well-developed characters who had deep, complex issues that prevented them from living full and complete lives. The couples’ journeys together are difficult, more than the average romance couple, but their devotion to each other was heart-warming. A.M. Johnson also likes to infuse her stories with music, and I love this. As an avid listener of music, I enjoy when authors incorporate songs into their books. It allows me to have a little piece of these characters and their stories with me whenever I hear the song. I look forward to getting my hands on this book when it releases.
