In honor of Sawyer Bennett releasing the fourth book, Wicked Ride, in her The Wicked Horses series next Tuesday, I am going to highlight my very first and favorite book in the Cold Fury series, Alex (Ryker is a very close second, and you can find all the links to these books on my recommendations page).
Sawyer Bennett is hands-down one of my favorite authors, and, while I have not read all of her books (I’m slowly making my way through the ones she published before I discovered her as an author), she is an author I can always count on for a well-written romance novel with some steam. She is also an author that writes various types of romance, new adult, suspense, angst, dark & gritty, so I never have to worry about her stories being stale or unoriginal. Even within the series, the stories are original, and I am always anxiously awaiting the next book or next installment in a series from this author. Her name alone requires an automatic one-click on Amazon
As I stated, the Cold Fury series is the first series by Sawyer Bennett I ever read, and I binged on Alex, Garrett, and Zack in three days. Of the three, Alex is my favorite. He is a complex character, known as the MVP of the team, basically he is the “Most Valuable Prick”, and hated by a majority of his teammates and fans, but his behavior is a direct result of the demons he carries around. As a result, the reader still loves him, even with his abrasive behavior. He begins to interact with Sutton, the heroine of the story, when he has to start to clean up his image. Through his required community service, he begins to change and evolve into a better man, and this is one of my favorite tropes, hot and grump guy begins to become a better man through the love of a woman. I also love Sutton. She puts Alex in his place several times, and she calls him out on his crap. One of the most heart-wrenching scenes happens because she pushes him, and his behavior, as a result, is appalling. Their fallout, however, only makes the ending of the book so much sweeter. It is just the best! I was swooning so hard I pretty sure I almost passed out. Alex is a fantastic story that will not disappoint, trust me!
The best part of the series is that the reader gets to continue to see the other guys throughout the books, and I love when we get to see little glimpses into the lives of the other characters. It is like catching up with an old friend. Overall this is a fantastic series, and I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who hasn’t been introduced to the wonderful world of Sawyer Bennett. I would consider it as a possible choice when I run my free e-book giveaway on Monday, June 27.

Hockey star Alexander Crossman has a reputation as a cold-hearted player on and off the rink. Pushed into the sport by an alcoholic father, Alex isn’t afraid to give fans the proverbial middle finger, relishing his role as the MVP they love to hate. Management, however, isn’t so amused. Now Alex has a choice: fix his public image through community service or ride the bench. But Alex refuses to be molded into the Carolina Cold Fury poster boy . . . not even by a tempting redhead with killer curves.
As a social worker, Sutton Price is accustomed to difficult people—like Alex, who’s been assigned to help her create a drug-abuse awareness program for at-risk youth as part of the team’s effort to clean up his image. What she doesn’t expect is the arrogant smirk from his perfect lips to stir her most heated fantasies. But Sutton isn’t one to cross professional boundaries—and besides, Alex doesn’t do relationships . . . or does he? The more she sees behind Alex’s bad-boy façade, the more Sutton craves the man she uncovers.
About the Author:
Since the release of her debut contemporary romance novel, Off Sides, in January 2013, Sawyer Bennett has released more than 30 books and has been featured on both the USA Today and New York Times bestseller lists on multiple occasions.
A reformed trial lawyer from North Carolina, Sawyer uses real life experience to create relatable, sexy stories that appeal to a wide array of readers. From new adult to erotic contemporary romance, Sawyer writes something for just about everyone.
Sawyer likes her Bloody Mary’s strong, her martinis dirty, and her heroes a combination of the two. When not bringing fictional romance to life, Sawyer is a chauffeur, stylist, chef, maid, and personal assistant to a very active toddler, as well as full-time servant to two adorably naughty dogs. She believes in the good of others, and that a bad day can be cured with a great work-out, cake, or a combination of the two.
