My #WCW this week is Liz from Deep. This story follows Ben, the bass player for Stage Dive, and Liz as they navigate an unplanned pregnancy and all that changes as a result.
What I love most about Liz is that she doesn’t depend on anyone. When she realizes that she is pregnant, she comes up with her own plan to take care of the baby without help from anyone, including Ben. She never once uses the pregnancy as a tool to get money or gifts from Ben. In fact, she doesn’t touch any of the money he gives her, because she is bound and determined to do this on her own. It is her choice to keep the baby, and she welcomes Ben to be a part of the pregnancy, but expects nothing. She is very clear about the fact that she can do this on her own. If she is with Ben it is because she wants to be, not because he is the father.
I also love that she wants to be with Ben, and nothing stops her. She actively pursues him at the beginning and never once blames him for the situation they are in together. She also doesn’t bend to his will. When he treats her like crap, she walks or puts him in his place. Liz completely knows what she is worth, and demands it from him and the other people in her life. This is truly a heroine that can take care of herself and the epitome of an excellent heroine.

“Martha retrieved a couple of papers from her handbag and shoved them in my general direction. ‘ You want me to believe you’re not just using my brother and this child to make some money? Prove it to me. Sign this.’
The whites of Ben’s eyes were huge, massive. ‘Martha-‘
‘What is that?’ I asked, the noise of my voice coming from far, far away.
‘It’s the contract he had drawn up, covering shared custody and a more than fair payment for maintenance-upon proof of paternity, of course,’ she answered.
‘Shouldn’t be a big deal for you to sign.’ She took another step forward, still holding all the papers…
‘When?’ I asked Ben, doing my best to meet his eyes, but not quite managing. I stared over his thick shoulder at the lights of the city below. It was all too raw, too painful. ‘You agreed we’d handle this between us not twenty-four hours after you found out I was pregnant. So when did you ask for this contract to be drawn up?’
He stared at me, unmoving.
‘Let me guess. You had it drawn up ‘just in case’?’
‘Lizzy.’ His Adam’s apple bobbed…
‘Why are we even doing this? I mean really. You lied to me, Ben. You’re just waiting for this to fall apart, aren’t you? You’re not the marrying kind? Honestly, I don’t even know that you’re the relationship kind. In a lot of ways you’ve avoided commitment at every step. I was just too stupid to see…’
I snatched the contract from her hands, slapping it down on the table…’Pen.’
‘Don’t,’ Ben said, pushing the word out through gritted teeth.
‘I don’t give a fuck about the contract,’ Ben snarled grabbing hold of my arm.
‘If you didn’t give a fuck about the contract, then it wouldn’t exist.’ I tugged my arm from his grasp…
‘No. Never again. I’m an never…ever…going through this with you again.’ I sucked in a sharp breath. ‘Don’t feel too bad about it, Ben. You did warn me, after all. I was just stupid enough to believe that maybe I could matter to you as much as you do to me. My bad.’
‘You do matter to me,’ he said, breathing hard.
‘But not enough. Not enough to be honest with me. Not enough to talk to me about this, about your fears…'”
Positive. With two little lines on a pregnancy test, everything in Lizzy Rollins’ ordinary life is about to change forever. And all because of one big mistake in Vegas with Ben Nicholson, the irresistibly sexy bass player for Stage Dive. So what if Ben’s the only man she’s ever met who can make her feel completely safe, cherished, and out of control with desire at the same time? Lizzy knows the gorgeous rock star isn’t looking for anything more permanent than a good time, no matter how much she wishes differently.
Ben knows Lizzy is off limits. Completely and utterly. She’s his best friend’s little sister now, and no matter how hot the chemistry is between them, no matter how sweet and sexy she is, he’s not going to go there. But when Ben is forced to keep the one girl he’s always had a weakness for out of trouble in Sin City, he quickly learns that what happens in Vegas, doesn’t always stay there. Now he and Lizzie are connected in the deepest way possible…but will it lead to a connection of the heart?
