#YearEndReview Top 9 Book Boyfriends of 2016

Book boyfriends!! Is there anything better than meeting a hero that just hits every single attribute you love in man?  Hot as sin, a little dominate and possessive, but confident to let his independent woman be who she is, and underneath all that sexy dominance is a heart of gold, showcasing his kind and compassionate side.  SWOON!

For this reason, this category was especially hard for me to narrow down to my top 6 of 2016.  When I was lamenting my woes to my friend, she looked at me and said, “It’s your blog.  Choose as many heroes as you want.”  She is incredibly smart, if you can’t tell, so that is what I did.  If you look closely, you can tell I still cheated, and went with series to cover one book boyfriend.  Don’t judge my inability to choose, blame the authors and their ability to create delicious heroes worthy of praise!

So, without further ado, check out my “Top 9 Book Boyfriends of 2016”!!

Hardball: (A Sports Romance Standalone) by [Reiss, CD] My musings…

There are so many reasons that I fell in love with the character of Dash Wallace, but, first and foremost, his intelligence is the top reason.  Athletes are generally stereotyped as being stupid or their intellectual level is not addressed at all.  CD Reiss completely develops his character in a way that exhibits his intelligence.  Second, he is deeply affected emotionally by people who matter to him.  He may seem stolid to many by his odd behavior, but underneath this emotionless persona lies a man who feels more than most.  Finally, his revelation about what really matters in his life makes him the best book boyfriend.  He finally realizes that all the superstitions and the game itself isn’t as important as the people he loves.

Ultimately though, is there anything hotter than a man that quotes Shakespeare?  Freaking Shakespeare, people!  GAH! That is so freaking sexy!

Perfect ass. Perfect arms. Perfect swagger.
They call Dash Wallace the Diamond King.
He’s the hottest commodity in baseball and in the bedroom.
When he runs the bases, every woman’s eyes are glued to his stunning body and a smile that puts the night lights to shame.
I’m no queen. I’m a regular girl with a regular job. I just watch him on TV and from the bleachers, season after season.
Girls like me grab a guy like that one in a million times.
My number just came up, and he is as spectacular in bed as he is on the field.
But there’s not a woman in the world who can distract Dash Wallace from the game. Not for a moment. Not even me.
Until the night I do. And everything changes.
Hardball is a SMOKING HOT, SEXY romance with a touch of angst and a ton of heart from CD Reiss. It’s a fun, witty, full-length standalone meant for the over-eighteen crowd.

Us (Him Book 2) by [Bowen, Sarina, Kennedy, Elle] My musings…

Jamie and Wes!! Seriously, hearing their names just makes me sigh in complete contentment.  I whole-heartedly fell in love with these characters, first in Him and then, again, in Us.  There is so much love and passion between these two it makes you almost enviousness of the love they have for each other.  It is truly what everyone searches for. On top of their passion for each other, these boys are just amazing people.  Kind, compassionate, and fully supportive of each other, Jamie and Wes are the epitome of love, and they are not bad to look at (Well, you know what I mean).  Their story is hot and filled with raw heart-wrenching yet beautiful emotion that it will melt your sheets and your heart.

Can your favorite hockey players finish their first season together undefeated?

Five months in, NHL forward Ryan Wesley is having a record-breaking rookie season. He’s living his dream of playing pro hockey and coming home every night to the man he loves—Jamie Canning, his longtime best friend turned boyfriend. There’s just one problem: the most important relationship of his life is one he needs to keep hidden, or else face a media storm that will eclipse his success on the ice.

Jamie loves Wes. He really, truly does. But hiding sucks. It’s not the life Jamie envisioned for himself, and the strain of keeping their secret is taking its toll. It doesn’t help that his new job isn’t going as smoothly as he’d hoped, but he knows he can power through it as long as he has Wes. At least apartment 10B is their retreat, where they can always be themselves.

Or can they? When Wes’s nosiest teammate moves in upstairs, the threads of their carefully woven lie begin to unravel. With the outside world determined to take its best shot at them, can Wes and Jamie develop major-league relationship skills on the fly?

Warning: contains sexual situations, a vibrating chair, long-distance sexytimes and proof that hockey players look hot in any shade of green.

The Goal (Off-Campus Book 4) by [Kennedy, Elle] My musings…

Tucker is more than words! Tucker, from the beginning of the book will have you squirming in your seat.  From his quiet confidence to his sexy as heck body and auburn hair to his sweet and nurturing nature will have the reader feeling the tingles, especially every single time he drawls out the word Darlin, even thinking of it now, sends shivers down my spine.  And if you think just hearing his southern drawl say that word is enough, just wait until you get to the sex scenes.  Who knew the quiet and stable one would be hiding a dirty mouth and mind.  His devotion to Sabrina as well as to his unborn baby will only add to his swoon-factor.

With this book, Elle Kennedy only highlights what readers have loved most about Tucker.  He is kind, caring, loyal, nurturing, and understanding.  He is truly the perfect fit for the ever stubborn Sabrina James, and his character solidifies a top spot in the book boyfriend category.

New York Times bestseller Elle Kennedy brings you a sexy new Off-Campus novel that can be read as a standalone

She’s good at achieving her goals…

College senior Sabrina James has her whole future planned out: graduate from college, kick butt in law school, and land a high-paying job at a cutthroat firm. Her path to escaping her shameful past certainly doesn’t include a gorgeous hockey player who believes in love at first sight. One night of sizzling heat and surprising tenderness is all she’s willing to give John Tucker, but sometimes, one night is all it takes for your entire life to change.

But the game just got a whole lot more complicated

Tucker believes being a team player is as important as being the star. On the ice, he’s fine staying out of the spotlight, but when it comes to becoming a daddy at the age of twenty-two, he refuses to be a bench warmer. It doesn’t hurt that the soon-to-be mother of his child is beautiful, whip-smart, and keeps him on his toes. The problem is, Sabrina’s heart is locked up tight, and the fiery brunette is too stubborn to accept his help. If he wants a life with the woman of his dreams, he’ll have to convince her that some goals can only be made with an assist.

checkmateduet My musings…

Travis King not only ruins Viola for other men, but he may very well ruin all the readers for other book boyfriends.  He seriously should come with a warning.  Travis, though, is so much more than a hero who is fantastic in bed.  He is incredibly handsome and has a body to die for, but what enthralls me most about his character is his intelligence and wit.  It is incredibly sexy when he is bantering with Viola, and the tension that mounts between the two is incredible.  Even more than his intelligence, Kennedy Fox has created the perfect blend of possessiveness, dominance, and confidence in Travis.  He is fiercely protective of Viola but allows her to make her own choices and gives her the freedom to pursue her dreams.  He is dominant in the bedroom, but he also allows her to take control and never crosses lines with her.  Travis also has the perfect level of confidence, where it comes across as knowing who he is and being comfortable in his skin versus cocky. Kennedy Fox has truly created book boyfriend gold with Travis King!

Checkmate: This is War

Travis King is the worst kind of a**hole. He taunts me for being a good girl and mocks my high standards. He’s cruel, crass, and has enough confidence to last two lifetimes. And I hate him.

It wouldn’t matter so much if he were avoidable. But considering he’s my older brother’s best friend and roommate, I see him more than I’d ever want to. His sculpted abs and gorgeous eyes are wasted on such an arrogant man, which makes me hate him even more.

Even though I’ve had a crush on him since I was ten, the feelings weren’t mutual and he’s made that very clear. He’s always loved getting under my skin and one night against my better judgment, I let him in my bed. I’ve succumbed to his manw**re ways, but that doesn’t change a thing.
Because the King is about to get played at his own game–and lose.

Checkmate: This is Love

Viola Fisher is the epitome of perfection.
She despises my one-night stands and mocks my less-than-classy habits.
She’s smart, beautiful, and too good to be true.
And I want her.

If she were anyone else, I’d have made my move years ago, but considering she’s my best friend’s little sister, she’s always been off-limits. Not to mention how much she loathes my very existence.

Hating me is her religion, but needing her is mine. Her sexy curves and filthy smart mouth make me want her even more, and I’m more determined than ever to change her mind.

I’ll prove I’m done playing games.
But until then, we’ll continue to play by her rules.
Viola Fisher may have won the battle, but the war isn’t over yet.

Checkmate, princess.

Ladies Man by [Evans, Katy]My musings…

Tahoe Roth!!!! AHH!!! The things this man does to my heart!

What can I say about this hero? Tahoe is a manwhore. There is no other way to put it, and with each passing hook-up your heart breaks right along with Gina’s.  You want to hate him, you want to scream at him, and you want to plead with him to get it together and see what he has with Gina.  What is amazing is that Katy Evans writes him in a way that even when you are so mad at him, you still absolutely adore him. It is clear he cares deeply for Gina and that he is trying to protect her.  There is a scene in particular where it is clear that it pains him to continue these hook-ups as much as it does Gina, crushing readers’ hearts (I may have teared up a bit). What readers come to realize is that Tahoe is more than this happy-go-lucky persona he shows to the world, as some skeletons in his closet reveal the motivation behind his behavior.  What will ultimately win the readers over is that when he goes all in with Gina it is all in.  The romance, the passion, the unmistakable love will kill you!  Death by swooning is such a way to go, though!

P.S. Readers see Tahoe and Gina again in Womanizer, which only made me fall in love with him even more!

Irreverent, cocky, playful and naughty.
He’s not the guy you date.
He’s the one night stand.
The one your mother warned you about.
The one your body craves.

You’d think the man who called me succulent would want to strip me down and spread me out on his bed—like he’s done with countless others.
But he passed on my offer….
Just like I’d once passed on his.
He’s wary, like I am.
He’s broken, like I am.
And everyone knows two broken parts can’t ever make a whole.
Tahoe and I are strictly friends.
So I distract myself with other men.
He doesn’t think my new man is good enough. This blond blue-eyed beast doesn’t think any man is—himself included.
But the more time we spend together, the more confused I feel.
I’m trying to open myself to love.
Yet I’m quickly realizing that the only man I want is Tahoe Roth.
The one man who will surely break my heart.

** LADIES MAN is a standalone; some characters from the Manwhore series make an appearance. **

STROKED LONG (The Stroked Series Book 2) by [Quinn, Meghan] My musings…

Bodi is truly unlike any of the other heroes on this list.  From the opening pages, the reader’s heart will bleed for Bodi, and it will continue to ache as he/she watches this man struggle.  The complexity of his character, the motivation behind his behavior, and his struggles to live a “normal” life will eat the readers up, melt their hearts, and make them fall in love with him.  Meghan Quinn’s ability to write Bodi as a vulnerable character while still showcasing his strength of character is truly incredible.  The readers will feel everything he feels the self-hatred, the guilt, the laughter, the friendship, the family, but above it all readers will feel LOVE.  Readers will root for this hero to get his HEA, because if any of these heroes deserve an happy ending, it is certainly Bodi.

From his dirty-blond hair and breathtaking smile, to the abs from heaven and the irresistible V in his waistline, everything about Bodi Olympic-gold-medalist Banks screams hot piece of @$$.

Yet there’s more.

Dark shadows lurk behind his soulful, serious eyes.

I’m enamored. He’s captured me.

How can running an art foundation with Bodi Banks turns into a slow-burning, epic romance, even though he tries to push me away at every chance? How can I stay away from a broken, routine-driven man whose soul cries to be forgiven for a crime only he believes he committed? Or is that a lie?

Downed: A Novel (Gridiron Book 3) by [Frederick, Jen] My musings…

Ace. The character you loved to hate in Jockblocked. Ace is looking for redemption, a way to fit into a new team after a tumultuous year with Warriors, and, to be honest, he had a hard hill to climb to get back into the good graces of Gridiron fans after his despicable behavior in Jockblocked.  Jen Frederick pulls it off, though, and this is in large part due to the vulnerability the reader gets to see from him when we are reading from his point-of-view.  Readers get to see what motivates him, why he shuts others down, why he is a grump half the time, and with each layer Jen Frederick exposes, the more Ace burrows into readers’ hearts.

Readers see that Ace is a little broken, a little beat up from the world, but with Bryant, he learns to heal, to let go of the past that is weighing him down, and to embrace the future and live without fear.  Readers finally get to see the real Ace, dedicated, protective, and loyal  The two of them as a couple embody what real love should be, and with each passing page, Ace becomes with the hero we love!

He’s the guy no one likes…

Despite winning two national championships, JR “Ace” Anderson was sent packing from his old school after losing the trust of his coach. At Southern U, he has a second chance to prove that his college legacy isn’t endless debauchery and selfishness. But his reputation precedes him, and his teammates offer a chilly welcome in the locker room. The one person who is willing to accept him is the very woman he should stay away from—his new coach’s daughter.

She’s the girl everyone loves…

Bryant Johnson’s only goal in life is to make others happy, even at her own expense. One look at her father’s new star quarterback, and she knows that Ace is her next project. With a reputation for being a “jerk whisperer”, Bryant has spent her last three years at college reforming sorry behavior and turning bad boys into the best boyfriends ever. In Ace, though, she’s met with surly resistance and a sizzling attraction she doesn’t expect. Fixing this wounded warrior will be her biggest challenge yet. Not falling for him will be even harder.

Between her big heart and his damaged one, a battle is ensuing. In this game of love, every defense will crumble.

The Strongest Steel (Second Circle Tattoos) by [Cole, Scarlett]My musings…

Trent freaking Andrews will own your heart as he heals Harper’s. His kindness, acceptance, understanding of Harper and all she has survived in her life makes him top book boyfriend material.  The way he handles her past, the way he helps her heal from the damage inflicted by another, and the way he physically helps her to move on is unparalleled. Also, the intimacy between these two on all levels, physically and emotionally, is electric, combustible.  Trent’s understanding, patience, and complete love of Harper will have readers falling head-over-heals in love with him!

In Scarlett Cole‘s The Strongest Steel, Harper Connelly never expected to find herself outside of a tattoo parlor at one in the morning. The scars that decorate her back are just one more reminder of things she’d rather forget, the past she wants to leave far behind her, but before she can move on, she needs him.

Trent Andrews has his own reasons for specializing in inking over scars. And there’s no way in hell he’s going to turn Harper away. Not when a swirling mix of tenderness and desire slams into him every time he sees her. Being with Harper is like going ten rounds in the ring—exhilarating, powerful, and dangerous. She stirs feelings in him he thought were long gone… if he can only get past her carefully constructed defenses.

Running was the only thing that saved Harper last time, but each session at Second Circle Tattoos brings her closer and closer to Trent. His lingering touches seduce her, making her believe in a life without fear, where she can be happy, whole, in love. But when cryptic messages start appearing on Harper’s phone, strange deliveries arrive at her door, and Second Circle is vandalized, Harper is convinced that her ex-boyfriend has tracked her down, and worse, that he knows about Trent. She ran from her past once before; this time will she have the strength to fight back?

The Strongest Steel

fallawayseriesMy musings…

This series was published during 2014 and ended with the last book in 2015.  I, however, did not have the pleasure of reading it until the beginning of 2016, after being introduced to the fabulousness that is Penelope Douglas with Corrupt. After this book, I proceeded to devour every single book this woman has ever published.  Even though I read these books the first weeks of January, these three boys have stayed with me, and have beat out 305 other book boyfriends to earn one of these top spots.

Jared – He is the boy you love to hate.  He is mean and vicious with Tate, but there is also something more behind the tormenting.  As they say, a bully only tortures to soothe something inside himself, and the reader is desperate to know what is hiding behind that sexy, tortured bully.  When it is revealed, and he makes amends with Tate, let the fun begin.  His devotion to her, his passion for her, his protective nature all makes him top book boyfriend material.  He is the epitome of a bad boy, and who doesn’t love that?

Madoc – Madoc will earn his place in his heart with his laid-back and humorous approach to life, but there is so much more than this playboy persona.  Madoc is nursing old wounds from a lost love, and he is hiding among his many conquests.  When she returns, all bets are off, and Madoc shows his true colors.  And, boy, did I ever love them!  Seeing him reconnect with Fallon brought out everything readers love in a hero.  He is fiercely protective of her as well as the other people he loves, and he is completely dedicated to what he believes in, willing to put everything on the line for what and who he wants.

Jax – Jax is such and interesting character.  Readers get to see him through all the books.  At first he is just the little brother of Jared, but he becomes so much more!  Just like Madoc and Jared, he is uber-protective of the people he loves, willing to do some questionable and illegal activities in order to shield them from harm and people looking to hurt them.  What really makes him endearing is he is broken, more so than the Madoc and Jared.  Seeing him struggle with his feelings for Juliet, seeing him shut down at the party, and seeing him come onto her at the school completely broke my heart. Even with all his broken pieces, readers still love him, because there is inherent good inside this man, and we desperately want him to recognize it just as the reader and Juliet do.

Penelope Douglas has knocked it out the park with this trio of men.  Even after all this time, my heart falters when I think of scenes from their stories or when I re-read sections because I just want to revisit these characters.  Simply, AMAZING!

My name is Tate.

He doesn’t call me that, though. He’ll barely refer to me at all, and he’ll hardly ever speak to me.

But he still won’t leave me alone.

We were best friends once. Then he turned on me and made it his mission to ruin my life. I’ve been humiliated, shut out, and gossiped about all through high school. His pranks and rumors got worse as time wore on. I even went to Europe for a year, just to avoid him.

But I’m done hiding from him now, and there’s no way I’ll allow him to ruin another year. He might not have changed, but I have.

It’s time to fight back.

When one brave young woman stands up to her best friend Jared, now tormenter, the consequences go beyond anything either of them ever would have imagined….

Madoc and Fallon. Two estranged teenagers playing games that push the boundaries between love and war…

She’s back.

For the two years she’s been away at boarding school, there was no word from her. Back when we lived in the same house, she used to cut me down during the day and then leave her door open for me at night.

I was stupid then, but now I’m ready to beat her at her own game…

I’m back.

Two years and I can tell he still wants me, even if he acts like he’s better than me.

But I won’t be scared away. Or pushed down. I’ll call his bluff and fight back. That’s what he wants, right? As long as I keep my guard up, he’ll never know how much he affects me….

Falling Away

Jaxon is the guy she’s supposed to avoid. K.C. is the girl he won’t let get away….

K. C. Carter has always followed the rules—until this year, when a mistake leaves her the talk of her college campus and her carefully arranged life comes crashing to a halt. Now she’s stuck in her small hometown for the summer to complete her court-ordered community service, and to make matters worse, trouble is living right next door.

Jaxon Trent is the worst kind of temptation and exactly what K.C. was supposed to stay away from in high school. But he never forgot her. She was the one girl who wouldn’t give him the time of day and the only one to ever say no. Fate has brought K.C. back into his life—except what he thought was a great twist of luck turns out to be too close for comfort. As they grow closer, he discovers that convincing K.C. to get out from her mother’s shadow is hard, but revealing the darkest parts of his soul is nearly impossible.…

The tables have turned. Now I have the power—and it’s his turn to beg…
Everyone wants to be me.

Maybe it’s the sway of my skirt or the way I flip my hair, but I don’t care. Even though their attention is the last thing I crave, I just can’t stop. I dominate the track, the speed rattles my bones, and the wind and the crowd screams my name.

I’m her. The girl driver. The queen of the race. And I’m surviving—something he thought I’d never do.

They all talk about him. Did you see Jared Trent on T.V? What did you think of his last race, Tate? When is he coming back to town, Tate?

But I refuse to care too much. Because when Jared does come home, I won’t be here.

Tatum Brandt is gone. I’m someone new.
