In the Wicked Horse series, one or both of the characters are running or hiding from something and are seeking comfort in the form of sex in the confines of the Silo. Just like the previous characters in the series, Logan and Auralie are no different. Auralie’s virginity is being auctioned at the Silo, and, similar to Cat, she doesn’t seem to want to be there participating. Logan, who we have seen in various sexual group activities in Wicked Lust and Wicked Need, is there to escape his past. The reasons for their participation and behavior is plausible, so the character motivation, what drives them, makes sense for the reader. What some readers may balk at is the “connection” between the Auralie and Logan. This aspect of their relationship is heavily emphasized, and, while it didn’t bother me, I know that for some readers this is an instant killer for them. There are two qualities of their relationship that I did really like. The first was the development of their sexual relationship. In the first two books, there is a set pattern of the female wanting to participate in activities that take place in the Silo, which produce incredibly erotic scenes. Even in Cat and Rand’s book, there was another intense sexual scene that took place, even if it wasn’t in the Silo. Even though, as a couple, Logan and Auralie are similar to the previous couples, what I really love about them is their inability to act on their desires in the beginning and then the limitations that are placed on them. I feel like this allows the reader to move beyond the insta-connection they claim to have. The reader gets to see them interact and spend time together, and they do divulge some dark and serious information, which is meant to strengthen their bond as a couple in the reader’s eye. Another aspect of their relationship that I love is that Auralie has a touch of alpha to her. This is not the norm in the romance genre. Yes, there are assertive females in the romance world who are vocal in the bedroom or aren’t afraid to experiment, but Auralie is different. There is never one ounce of shame for her actions or decisions, she doesn’t ever let Logan dominate her unless she wants it, and the claiming that occurs in this book is generally a hero act in romance books. I absolutely love her, and I found her to be a refreshing heroine in the story.
The plot in the story is good. The story progress at an appropriate pace. I never felt as though the story is dragging or moving too quickly. Unlike the previous stories, this conflict and, as a result, the resolution of the story seemed lack-luster to me. The climax of the story is lacking heightened tension, and the story is resolved very quickly with really little to no additional issues crossing their plates. With Magnus, I expected there to be a little more action, similar to Cat and Rand’s story. Having this tension would have made this a five star read for me.
My interest is piqued by the introduction of Kyle in the epilogue, so I will be eagerly waiting to see how he is integrated into the next book and if it is potential spin-off series. While Kyle is intriguing, I was hoping to see some of the other characters from the previous books, but sadly this did not happen. I do, however, have faith that with the final book the reader will get to see them all one last time
AHHHHH!!!!!!! Now let’s address the best part of this epilogue. I just can’t even express that excitement that this epilogue has created for “Wicked Bond.” These tiny snippets of Bridger and his life have tortured me in every book, and the reader finally gets to see a slice of his life. This epilogue has only left me eagerly anticipating the next release in the series!
Overall, this a solid read that I thoroughly enjoyed experiencing. It is well-written, so sexy it will melt your Kindle, and contains lovable characters. Sawyer Bennett has certainly takes the reader on another wild ride, and it will be another notch on her belt of amazing books!
