Sarah’s Musings…

5 PROMISE ME STARS

Gah! This one of those books where I start out by saying READ THIS BOOK! Nothing that I wrote will do Rachel Van Dyken’s words justice. The story, the characters…just every single thing far surpassed my expectations.

If you couldn’t tell, I’m a huge fan of the Eagle Elite. It is my favorite mafia series EVER. So when I heard that Andrei Pretov was getting a book, my need for this book was already at max level, and RVD created such a complex and layered man, a person who saw himself as a monster and settled for lying in the darkness. What is always love about her mafia heroes is that they, without a doubt, are violent and are the epitome of mafia bosses, but they are also husbands and family men. They are a family, laugh and joke and love together. I reveled in seeing my old Eagle Elite group support and bring Andrei into their family. He deserves it because this man hated himself and his name more than anyone and to see him earn redemption in the eyes of his friends, his family and the woman he loves was nothing short of phenomenal.

Alice is another character my heart broke for, and like the heroines who came before her. She learns to love him in the darkest of moments. She never tries to change him, she finds her strength in his darkness. She fully evolves into a strong woman because of his love and guidance. She finds her place as his queen. Her moments with him were the epitome of sadness and the exemplification of real love.

These stories always ensnare me with their dangerous plots and their tales of vengeance, but what continually keeps me coming back is how RVD weaves together the light and the dark. She shows how dark the mafia can be but also the happy moments of a family who loves. She shows how light and darkness can reside in this same person. But what I really love, what makes this a romance at is core is that that shows that love saves, that is doesn’t judge but reveal in all aspects of the person who holds your heart.

I have no idea what is next but I hope RVD never lets this series go. This, I believe, shows her best writing. It is a wonderfully dark and dangerous world, and I never want to leave it.

With blood on my hands, I held her.

With death in my soul, I took from her.

With the devil in my heart, I coveted her.

There are many definitions of Hell.

My list was exhaustive, my definitions tragic.

Tonight I was adding something new to the very top.

Girl number six thirty-two.

She arrived on my birthday, the same day, every year, I play Russian Roulette and pull the trigger.

She was my omen.

My end game.

She made it personal.

And for the first time in my life, I gave in.

A virgin mob boss with no soul.

My name is Andrei Petrov.

They call me the devil.

All I want is for the pain to end.

All she wants is for me to share it.

I am the last remaining heir to a dynasty that should burn in Hell.

And my last wish remains for it to die with me.
