3 Wasn’t What I Expected CROWNS
My biggest issue is not the story nor the blurb, but that the two didn’t seem to match in any way. This isn’t necessarily a second chance romance. It isn’t overly angsty. At the end of the novel, I wanted the story that matched the synopsis.
I found myself to be ambivalent about the characters. I didn’t hate them or love them. They were not overly complex or three dimensional, and some of the behaviors from the hero are a bit extreme. Delia is likable enough, but her reaction to what she finds out is subdued in a sense but also extreme for her part in the whole thing. The chemistry between the two characters is okay. I never felt the chemistry between them, though, and the sexual intimacy was okay. I wanted there to be more between them.
The pacing of the story is good. Actions move at an appropriate pace; however, the foundation of the story is based on their friendship and I wasn’t sold on it. It didn’t seem like they had this unshakable friendship. Even the way her virginity is promised and the way he dismisses her isn’t at all what I was expecting.
At the end of the day, this is just a novel that didn’t meet the expectations set up by the blurb. I was expecting a high angst, betrayed, second chance romance, and I did not get that at all.
ARC received in exchange for an honest review.
We crashed into each other like the moth and the flame.
For years, we’ve been best friends.
I told him all my secrets and I believed I knew his.
In camp, I thought he was the most beautiful boy in the world.
In high-school, I promised him my virginity.
On our first day of college, I had three revelations:
He’s a jerk.
He doesn’t care.
I don’t even know him.
