5 Charming CROWNS
Ava Harrison’s Deceit is filled with a angst, emotion, a charming as heck hero, and a heroine struggling to overcome heartbreak. I found these two to be endearing, sexy, and most importantly an example that love can be healing.
Ollie! My man. There are not words that will do him adequate justice. He is just all the things a hero should be. He is utterly delectable in looks and personality. I love that he brings the heroine out of her shell. He brings her back to life and shows her what real love and life is about. Sure, he makes mistakes. Big ones. He does however make up for it in the best way, which one would expect because, hello, he is CHARMING AF.
Addy is broken at the beginning of this broke. She is trying to heal by taking time away, hence putting her on the path to Oliver. What ensues is a relationship that awakens her, heals her, shows her that what she thought was a passionate love really wasn’t. I love who she becomes with him, not because of him, but who these two are together. Who she becomes when the inevitable conflict occurs is hard. There are moments that I want to shake her for her stubborn nature, but this is a result of protecting her heart. She heart was already fractured at the beginning of the book, and Ollie shattered it into the tiniest of pieces. So, yeah, does she make dumb choices? Absolutely, but she is broken a tad beyond repair, and although she is a fictional character, she is meant to exemplify human nature.
The story is angst and drama and explosive chemistry. Readers will definitely be emotionally invested from the beginning, and whether they like or dislike the heroine or hero or story, their emotions will be connected to everything that happens.
The one attribute of an Ava Harrison story is that she doesn’t always write the conventional hero, heroine, or story. Olly doesn’t follow standard romance hero protocal, and neither does Addy. The story takes a departure from the traditional romance trope, and at the end of the day, I respect any author who tries to shake up the norm and does it so well. So, will there be people who don’t like the book? Probably. But what matters more than anything is her writing is impecable.
I needed to get away.
My ex was getting married.
So, I left.
The English countryside was a picture-perfect escape.
The dashing stranger an even better one.
And what started as a chance encounter quickly became more.
He promised to show me how to live, how to feel alive and forget a past best forgotten.
He made me believe things could be different.
That was until I found out who he was . . .
He was Oliver Blackthorn.
The 16th Earl of Lockhart. Thirty-third in line to the throne.
And a liar.
