My musings…

 4.5 Crowns

Sapphire Heist is the conclusion of Jake and Steph’s story. The reader gets to follow them on their journey as they team up to solve the mystery of the missing diamonds while attempting to develop their relationship.

I enjoyed reading Sapphire Heist for the following three reasons:

1. Mystery and Suspense. I have yet to encounter a romance writer that can weave mystery and romance together the way Lauren Blakely can. There are romances that are dark, gritty, and violent, but Lauren Blakely’s are more complex than that. There are several plots and characters that are woven together into one story, and the reader is never really sure how the story is going to turn out, leaving us on the edge of our seats. I know that I didn’t expect the perpetrators who stole the loot, and that is a true testament to her ability to create an excellent plot.

2. Steph is still just as honorable during this book. I really enjoy her as a character. She stands up to Jake when needed, follows her conscience when dealing with the investigation, and is still trying to take care of her mom. What I ultimately love most about her is she doesn’t take crap from any of the men in her life. She has learned from her past and knows what she deserves, and, when she doesn’t get it, she walks. She is also willing to acknowledge her errors and atone for them when necessary. She is truly a great heroine!

3. The ending is sweet. I like the Lauren Blakely didn’t force the standard happy ending. There is one, don’t fret about that, but it isn’t canned. Steph and Jake make it work for them; they find their own treasure!

This series solidifies the epicness that is Lauren Blakely, and her sub-genre of mystery/suspense and romance is done so well. She continues to be a one-click author for me!

Keep your lover close and your enemy closer…

After giving in to a fiery night of passion, island adventurer Steph Anderson and bounty hunter Jake Harlowe are back to square one. With millions in stolen jewels at stake, it’s hard for Steph not to question her new partner’s true motives—no matter how sexy he might be. Jake is hungry for more of Steph, but he can sense her growing mistrust, which only fuels his own doubts. Worse, there’s undeniable evidence that someone else is now after the jewels—and that they are both in real danger.

Fighting against their magnetic attraction is a distraction these two can’t afford. In order to survive, they’ll have to pull off one more heist—and trust each other with something even more precious than jewels: their hearts.

My musings…

I just sat and stared, blinking at my Kindle, trying to process what the heck just happened!

I thought that this book would be a four star book for me because it is the middle of Beck and Sela’s story, and I generally score books in the middle of series lower, but, holy heck, Sawyer Bennett just blew my world apart. Once again, I will anxiously await the conclusion of Beck and Sela’s story.

I will warn you that this story is a little darker as it deals with vengeance and retribution, but I’m really enjoying the story and the characters in it. I like when an author I love branches out and tries a different sub-genres in romance. It is dark, but such a great read! I can’t wait for Sugar Free!!!
Full review will come closer to the release date.

In the steamy and suspenseful sequel to Sugar Daddy (“A totally gripping take on romance and revenge!”—Lauren Blakely), a heartbreaking rift threatens to unravel a dangerous alliance . . . and a fragile new love.

After posing as an escort for the Sugar Bowl online dating service, Sela Halstead is looking for one thing: payback. She’s closing in on the site’s heartless founder, Jonathon Townsend, and she needs Beckett North, Townsend’s business partner and her lover, by her side. She’d thought that their intimate nights together had forged an unbreakable bond, but after a shocking betrayal, Sela begins to doubt the brilliant bad boy. When push comes to shove, can she trust Beck to do the right thing?

Now that he understands the truth, Beck will stop at nothing to secure the reckoning Sela deserves. But between his desire for her and his disgust for JT, Beck doesn’t exactly have a lot of control over his emotional state. Left with no other choice, he must summon all his discipline to maintain JT’s trust and pretend that they’re still friends. But how far will Beck go to prove his loyalty to Sela? He nearly lost her once. To keep her, Beck might have to kill for her.

Note: Sugar Rush ends on a cliffhanger. Sela and Beck’s story concludes in Sugar Free!

My musings…

I will be sitting and waiting patiently, well not really that patiently, for midnight to approach so I can devour this new book from Penelope Ward.  So, you may be wondering why I am selecting this book as one of my most anticipated books of the week if I haven’t read it, and the answer is really easy.  I have never disliked a Penelope Ward book.  Her writing, her characters, and her plot lines are always well done.  Her stories always pull a range of emotions from me and are generally pretty angst-filled, and I am sucker for angst in a story.  Additionally, her stories always suck me in and cause me to abandon my adult responsibilities just to stay in the world she created for a little bit longer.

So as I said, I will be sitting by Kindle tomorrow night at midnight, just waiting for this book to download onto my Kindle, and I cannot wait to share my full review with you on Friday during the blog tour for this book.

A STANDALONE NOVEL that does NOT need to be read in conjunction with any other book.

From New York Times bestselling author, Penelope Ward, comes a friends-to-lovers story with sexy new characters.

After getting dumped, the last thing I needed was to move next door to someone who reminded me of my ex-boyfriend, Elec.

Damien was a hotter version of my ex.

The neighbor I’d dubbed “Angry Artist” also had two massive dogs that kept me up with their barking.

He wanted nothing to do with me. Or so I thought until one night I heard laughter coming through an apparent hole in my bedroom wall.

Damien had been listening to all of my phone sessions with my therapist.

The sexy artist next door now knew all of my deepest secrets and insecurities.

We got to talking.

He set me straight with tips to get over my breakup.

He became a good friend, but Damien made it clear that he couldn’t be anything more.

Problem was, I was falling hard for him anyway. And as much as he pushed me away, I knew he felt the same…because his heartbeat didn’t lie.

I thought my heart had been broken by Elec, but it was alive and beating harder than ever for Damien.

I just hoped he wouldn’t shatter it for good.

Author’s note – Neighbor Dearest is a full-length standalone novel. Due to strong language and sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18.
