Once again, there are so many good books that I had the privilege of reading this month.  Most of them are 4-5 CROWN reads.  You can check out my reviews for each of these books on my Reviews page or on Goodreads.

Best Heroine: Cream of the Crop by Alice Clayton

My musings…

I admire her adventurous and bold spirit, her hilarious internal dialogue, and her take-no-prisoners attitude towards men.  After struggling with body issues, Natalie has come to own her plus-size figure, and Alice Clayton gives the appropriate attention to this part of her character without dwelling on it.  Additionally, the musical soundtrack that runs through her head is just one more attribute that makes her such a likable character.   She is truly a great female character!

Best Angst: Sacred Hart by A.M. Johnson

My musings…

A.M. Johnson can write emotionally flawed and complex characters who I love. They are flawed and real, and, although their stories are tragic, the characters achieve redemption and happiness at the end of her books.  She gets to me emotionally like most authors can’t. I connect to her stories and her characters.  I cry for them, root for them, and cheer for them the whole way through the book.  I am very rarely emotionally affected by a book, maybe 2 or 3 a year, if that.  Don’t get me wrong, I love a lot of books, but to have my heart feel as though it is cracking is just something that doesn’t occur often; however, A.M. Johnson’s Sacred Hart completely crushed me in the best way an author can.

Favorite Series: One Good Reason by Julie Johnson

My musings…

I love every book in this series.  The characters are fun and interesting, the plots are an intriguing mix of romance and suspense, and it is written well.  I genuinely care about these characters.  I want them to have their happy ending.  I love the suspense she creates with her story-lines.  This is just an all around solid series.  I am excited to read more books from the secondary characters she has created!

Best Book of the Month: Bittersweet by Sarina Bowen

My musings…

When I was writing the review after reading this book, I found it hard to put my love of the story into words.  The characters are excellent, the plot is fantastic, and the writing is excellent.  All the characters are so lovable, leaving me to desperately hope they all get a story or at least secondary plots in the remaining books.  In addition to my love of her use of characterization, the imagery used made the setting another character in the story.  The descriptions were vivid and utilized in way to make me want to book a trip to Vermont ASAP.  This is truly a fantastic book, a 5 CROWN read.  If you haven’t picked it up yet, you need to do it now!

Happy reading,
