5 STOLEN CROWNS
Thief of Hearts comprises everything I love about a L.H. Cosway book. It is well-written, unique and fresh, and captures the attention of the reader.
The readers will be enraptured by the tale of Stu and Andrea with their personalities and development throughout the story. Stu, who the reader has met if you have read the previous story in the book, is the oldest brother in his family and is floundering after his release from jail. But of course, with any L.H. Cosway novel, it isn’t that simple. Stu is trying to make the right choices while protecting his family and the woman he has fallen in love with, and this is what ultimately makes him a sympathetic and heroic character. As a reader, I don’t care that he was a criminal. I don’t care that he has been in jail. I don’t care that he is planning to commit another crime. What is motivating him is honorable and heroic, and I love him for it.
Andrea is a woman whose life has become stagnant since the passing of her husband, but she is unaware of the lack of living she is doing. Through her relationship with Stu and the plot, the reader gets to see Andrea really change and grow as a character. Her emotions begin to rise to the surface, and she begins to embrace living and loving again. Readers, though, will love her for more than just her transformation, because at her core she is a kind and nurturing woman. Seeing her interact with the students as well as with her cousin showcases just how wonderful and kind she is, almost giving the reader no choice but to love this heroine.
The chemistry between the two characters is tangible. The author takes the time to develop them as a couple, allowing the reader to see them go from teacher and student, to friends, and finally to lovers. When they are together, the sparks fly between them, and the reader can certainly feel the heat.
More than the main characters, L.H. Cosway produces a lovable cast of secondary characters. I love the whole crew of brothers, as it is easy to see how much they love and care for each other. Every single scene with Stu’s family is hilarious and heart-warming. With this book we also get the addition of Alfie, Andrea’s cousin, and the reader will absolutely adore him, and L.H. Cosway gives him the HEA he deserves.
The plot of this book surprised me. I obviously knew the basics going into the story based on the synopsis, but I didn’t know how complex it was actually going to be. It isn’t as straight-forward as he is stealing paintings, and this complexity allows the reader to be surprised by some plot revelations that occur later in the book. Additionally, L.H. Cosway does an excellent job balancing the suspenseful aspects of the book with the romance. Instead of being at war with each other, they complement each other. Both of these parallel story-lines will keep the reader engaged, making the book hard to put down.
There is no need for any thievery here! With the characters, the plot, and the well-written prose, L.H. Cosway has created a story that will have the reader gladly handing over his/her heart to Stu and Andrea and the wonderful secondary characters of Thief of Hearts, leaving the reader anxious for the final installment of the series.

Andrea Anderson has no clue of the thoughts churning around in the dark and dangerous ex-con’s head as he enters her classroom. In fact, she’s momentarily lost for words. Not in her entire teaching career has she had a student who looked quite like Stu Cross.
A widow at just twenty-eight, love is something Andie hasn’t considered a part of her life for a very long time. However, when lingering touches turn to whispered words and hot, searching stares, she begins to wonder if maybe she should take a leap of faith.
But Stu is in her class for a reason, and it has nothing to do with love. He’s there to burrow his way into her life and repay a debt, otherwise his family will suffer. Andie is the first person to show him true kindness since he left prison, and though he doesn’t want to mislead her, he doesn’t have another choice.
Before long, Stu can’t tell whether or not he’s acting anymore, and his feelings for Andie could throw all of his carefully crafted plans into complete and utter disarray.
