Dark Mafia Prince by New York Times bestselling author, Annika Martin is LIVE!
4 Dark and Dirty Crowns
This is the first book that I have read by Annika Martin, and it certainly won’t be the last. What drew me into this book, even though I have a million on my TBR list, is the synopsis. A mafia prince believed to be dead returns to avenge his family and to find his brother while reconnecting with the one woman he can’t be involved with means SOLD. I am all in! The blurb alone pushes the book to the top of my list. I love dark and dirty romances, and this plot and these characters certainly hit the mark.
Aleksio, the hero of the story, is the oldest of the brothers, thus the leader. He has spent years planning to avenge the wrongs committed against his families and to track down his brothers. As the title insinuates, he is a prince in the mafia world, and most of the story focuses on Viktor and Aleksio attempting to find their younger brother and take their rightful place in the mafia world. Aleksio is danagerous and dark, and he has killed people. He is certainly a character who you shouldn’t love, but do. Beneath his vengeance and violence, the reader gets to see that he is that underneath all the violence that he is has a heart. From the way he cares for Mira to the way he pursues his brother’s location at all costs shows how loyal he is and how much he has the capacity for love. I can’t wait to see him become King of the mafia world. Mira is the heroine of this story, and she struggles for most of the story between loving a man who is living a life she wants to escape and can’t abide by and walking away to leave the whole mafia life behind. What I love most about her is that even among the violence and immorality, she is the beacon of hope and optimism, especially to Aleksio. She tries to always do what is right, and she is affected deeply when she feels that wrongs have been committed by her or others. I also love that she does not back down. These mafia men do not scare her, which makes sense since she grew up in this life, but to see her bravery, even in the face of some difficult events, is pretty amazing. One area of note, some may be uncomfortable with a certain word he calls Mira when they have sex; this, however, didn’t bother me. She enjoys it, and it isn’t meant to be derogatory. This book is also advertised as being dark and dirty, so it makes sense with the type of romance story being told. And, honestly, to each their own. The other character of note is Viktor, the middle brother. He is savage and violent. He seems to be dead inside when it comes to emotions, the only exception being his brothers. I am completely intrigued by this character. I need to know what has messed him up, and I need to see how he falls in love, so I will anxiously be awaiting his story.
This plot will absolutely have me reading book 2 and 3 in the series. While the book completes the story of Mira and Aleksio and continues with Viktor, the move to reclaim the empire that is stolen from them has just begun. So, I would imagine the next two books will continue to follow this main plot line. I personally love when an author can carry on multiple plot lines, especially over a series. It really speaks to the talent of the author. I also love the mafia world with all the rules, code of honor, and power moves. These people are intriguing to me as they operate on a different value system but still have ideals of honor and loyalty. The whole story is just captures my attention, and I honestly cannot wait to see how these brothers are going to take back what is theirs.
As I said, this is my first novel by Annika Martin, but I will certainly be visiting these brothers again to see how they destroy their enemies and rule the mafia world while falling in love. Not only did I love the story and the characters, but I also enjoyed the writing of the author. This is definitely a new favorite series for me, and I would recommend for readers that are looking for a slightly darker romance.

Don’t look at me like that. So trusting.
Like you think I’m not a monster.
Like I won’t wrap your hair in my fist and bend you to my will.
Like I won’t sacrifice you, piece by piece, to save my brother.
I’m the most dangerous enemy you’ll ever have because every time you look at me, you see somebody good. That friend who died.
And when you look at me like that, I die again.
I spent years making myself invisible.
A good girl, apart from the noise.
Then you came back, beautiful and deadly in your Armani suit.
Don’t look at me like you still know me, you say.
But I remember your smile and those sunny days.
Before they lowered your small casket into the ground.
Before they told us the prince was dead.
