Scoring the Quarterback is my first read by S.M. Soto, and I will definitely be checking out more of her books. This frenemies to lovers sports romance is angsty and dramatic, which is just my style.
Luke is absolutely the stereotypical college jock – arrogant, hot, and focused. When readers meet him, he is really obnoxious and a jerk to Natalie, but there is something endearing about him (it’s the dimples, I think). With each passing day, he begins to worm his way into Natalie’s heart, and readers see him begin to fall for her. Now, I’m not going to lie. There comes a point in this story when I wanted to junk punch him. Seriously. I pretty sure I glared at my screen like I could incinerate him with my eyes. Alas, I couldn’t, and he crushed me just as much as our heroine. I wasn’t sure I could forgive him, but I did and he earns his hero spot back.
Natalie is a heroine who has been second place her whole life, and because she is so sweet, you want her to find a relationship with someone who puts her first. She, like most heroines in a sports romance, is not impressed with Luke. He has to win her over, and he does. His friendship make her happy, and she even begins to recognize that she is actually worthy of being first. She makes some bad choices, doesn’t follow her instincts, but her heart is broken and shattered. Though she is broken, she does come it stronger in the end, grabbing her HEA.
This story is a super slow burn. A lot of time is given to developing their relationship and watching romance bloom between them. Once, it happens, it is very short lived, and readers will be so angry and upset about how it all goes down, as well as the destruction that follows. There is a lot of drama and angst that follows, but it is truly the only act that would makes forgiveness possible. S.M. Soto does provide an HEA that is so freaking adorable, I was smiling from ear to ear.
Scoring the Quarterback is an angsty and sexy slow burn with a fun couple. The writing is good and the story entertaining. It is definitely an author I will read again.

An epic Frenemies to lovers romance.
Luke Caldwell has three abhorrent qualities to him:
1) He’s a pig-headed jock.
2) He’s a grade A asshole with the biggest, overbearing ego.
3) He’s a manwhore.
These three qualities alone should’ve had me running for the hills. I tried to steer clear of him, I really did, but it was an impossible feat. Luke Caldwell was nothing if not persistent and the way he bulldozed through my life, not taking no for an answer is proof of it.
I tried to stay away from him.
I wanted to hate him. But I couldn’t.
Luke was nothing like the idiot jock I pegged him out to be. He became a friend, a confidant, and after one unforgettable night, he became so much more.
Whatever this is between us, it’s impossible to ignore. I just hope when all is said and done, I won’t be burned by the college bad boy.
