 My musings…

Max Monroe continues to dole out romantic comedy gold with Sex Says!  It is funny, romantic, and steamy, and this novel provides readers with endless entertainment while also shedding some serious light on the idea of embracing who you are, non-conformity, and living life to the fullest.

I completely and totally adore Luca and Lola. They are phenomenal characters in their own right, and are also fantastic together.  Lola embraces who she is in regards to how she lives her life and her style, as she is fun and quirky and completely independent.  Although she isn’t open to Luca’s perspective at first, she is willing to eventually play along and start to consider different points-of-view, which only lead to her character evolving for the better.  She becomes more open, more aware of the realities of relationships, and more willing to live life without adhering to expectations of others.  Luca is such a care-free, go with the flow, live life to the fullest type of man, and I love him for it.  He takes experiences as they come, always willing to try new things, meet new people, really seeming to grab life by the horns, so to speak.  He loosens Lola up with his antics and viewpoints on life, but he is also changed by her.  She makes him take a look at living life without any expectations, and consider whether or not he needs to alter his views.  Both of them are unique and refreshing characters, and I love how they are open about seemingly everything.  They seem to fully fit each other in every single capacity.

The chemistry between these two is off the charts in every single way.  From the sparring to the friendship to the actual relationship, these two characters are electric.  Even when they banter, the the emotional and physical chemistry is combustible, and when they do eventually connect physically, it sets fire to the room, figuratively speaking of course. I love watching them together no matter what this couple is doing, and watching them evolve and change and find their way to each other is everything a good romance should be.

Max Monroe also delivers a host of lovable secondary characters that had my laughing out loud. So many wonderful and comedic moments, which is where these authors shine.  I love every single moment and experience with them, and they brought so much out in the main characters, while also serving to advance the plot when needed.  Even though, secondary characters are often plot tools for the authors, Max Monroe makes them more, and these characters are everything.

What I seem to love most, though, about Max Monroe’s books, minus the crazy and lovable characters, is their underlying themes that are woven in with the often crazy and outlandish humor.  Sex Says in particular contains one of my favorites, which is experience everything life has to offer.  These characters don’t fit into boxes, and they live their lives for themselves and eventually each other. They are open to new experiences and new people, and Luca and Lola seem to vibrate with life and are more open-minded as a result of their willingness to experience every facet of life.  After reading this book, I feel inspired to take on every experience life has to offer, to be open to meeting and getting to know new people that are different from me, and really just to take all that life has to offer while I can.  This is what the relationship of Lola and Reed has shown me, and it is a message that should be read and embraced by all.

This story is completely and utterly fantastic! I don’t know how else to say it other than you need to have this book! You need to read this book! You need to REED THIS and listen to everything SEX SAYS because it is simply divine.  Max Monroe absolutely has another hit on their hands, and it doesn’t seem that this will ever change!

From New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author Max Monroe comes a new standalone romantic comedy.

My name is Lola Sexton, and I’m a sex addict.
Okay…that’s a lie.
Truth is, I’m a serial dater turned dating and relationship columnist for The San Francisco Times. My readers call me Sex. Sex Says.
I love my job.
I love my life.
And I hate Reed Luca.

My name is Reed Luca, and I’m a liar.
Ironically, that’s the truth.
I’m 31, and my occupation is…well, complicated.
My favorite kind of woman comes in all shapes and sizes, but always has a big brain.
I’ve never hated anything.
Lola Sexton hates me.
Luckily, it’s a thin line between love and hate, and with my help, pretty Lola will only be able to straddle that line for so long.

*Reed Luca is an asshole. No one wants to be his spirit animal.

**Okay. I wrote that. Maybe someone would want to be his spirit animal. I guess. Maybe. Sorry. (Not sorry.)—Lola

Normally, I needed a face-to-face encounter to read a person’s intentions, but something about what I knew about Lola from her column and the careful way she’d arranged her words when emailing me spoke to violence I wasn’t sure I’d ever witnessed.

Limb amputation, genital mutilation, and a healthy hock in order to leave a loogie behind on the tattered body.

Would meeting up with the woman behind the words lead to anything other than some kind of police involvement? Though, really, I kind of miss them…

No, no. I was supposed to be reformed.

But even the converted could find themselves in trouble when they least expected it. An impulsive video on YouTube that led to millions of views was proof of that. My inbox was now cluttered with interview requests from various media sources, as well as hate mail from angered Sex Says fans who didn’t appreciate my candid view regarding their favorite dating and relationship column.

I stared at the blinking cursor on the screen where I’d opened a return email and volleyed.

Red wire, blue wire, red wire, blue wire…

      Goddamn, I couldn’t help myself.

Fuck it. I’ll cut both of them.
