 My musings…

5 Tequila Kissed CROWNS

I have never hid my love of J. Daniels. I’ve devoured everything she has written, and I consume everything she publishes. She is drop everything and read author for me because she never disappoints. Her characters are among my favorites, heroes and heroines alike, her stories are always entertaining and sexy, and I enjoy her writing style. She hits every romantic point for me, and What I Need is the epitome of what I adore about this series!

I have a particular love for these Bama boys. Ben, Luke, Reed, and now CJ are among my favorite heroes, but CJ has taken the top position (Sorry Reed!). CJ Tully, from the time he connects with Riley, is so forthright with what he wants, HER. His easy manner, confident swagger, and knowledge on how to treat a lady in and out of the bedroom makes him top-notch hero material. And that word Darlin’! Holy heck! I never knew one single word could have me quiver, but it does. Every single time it slipped out his mouth, I swooned, freaking passed the heck out! What will really do it for readers though is his protective nature, and not just a brute physical protection. He wants to care for is woman, provide her security, boost her self-esteem, and worship every aspect of her mind and body. How can he get any better? Readers definitely need to make sure that they ride the #TullyTrain! He is worth it!

Riley is difficult for me, and not because I didn’t like her as a character. I did. And even though she isn’t as fierce as I personally prefer in a heroine, there are many admirable qualities to Riley, loyalty in particular. She is incredibly loyal to her family, especially Reed, which readers see at the very beginning of the book. Readers will also enjoy the moments when she fights and stands up for herself, but these are few and far between, as she backs down several times throughout the book, especially with Richard and CJ. In fact, she hurts CJ a lot throughout the book as she attempts to keep their relationship a secret in order to keep her familial relationships in tact. Even at the end, when the conflict blows up, her reaction is extreme, especially after all the ways she hurt him throughout the book. Don’t get me wrong, I like Riley, but I wanted her to be stronger and braver, someone more willing to put it all on the line for someone like CJ.

I love their journey as a couple. Watching them go from lovers to friends to lovers again is so enjoyable. The reader gets to start the story off with the steamy scenes J. Daniels always delivers, which establishes the physical connection these two have together. These opening scenes also establish that CJ is a man who wears his heart on his sleeve. When they return from the wedding, their new relationship hits a considerable roadblock, and while this acquiescence on Riley’s part is frustrating, readers will become more enamored with CJ as he dances the line between romance and friendship with his flirting and attempts to win her back. The catalyst for what pushes these two together is not what I was expecting, but it is the perfect plot detail to progress the relationship between the two while keeping what readers love about these characters in tact. The conflict of the story is good and aligns with the characterization developed by the author, and the resolution provides readers with the HEA they desire for CJ and Riley. Th story, the pacing, the plot development is truly perfect and will entertain readers from the opening pages.

The Alabama Summer series continues to astound. I am enraptured by this town, these friends, and the romances J. Daniels has created for them. These books are fun and sexy and deliver on the romance, and What I Need is no exception!

P.S. Jake! Are you trying to kill me J. Daniels? I think yes! This next one is going to be a doozy, and I cannot freaking wait!

I voluntarily read an early copy of this book.

WINSynopsis:

From New York Times bestselling author, J. Daniels, comes a sexy new STANDALONE novel.

Riley Tennyson has made a huge mistake.

At least, that’s what she keeps telling herself.

Showing up to her brother’s wedding pissed off and newly single, Riley seeks comfort in solitude and an open bar, until the gorgeous and irresistibly charming CJ Tully makes her a better offer―a wild night with the master of smooth-talking where nothing is off limits.

Riley does what any single woman would do, and a connection is made. One neither one of them can ignore. But when she comes home to the boyfriend she no longer thought she had, Riley buries her secret and begs CJ to do the same.

Forget about each other. It was a mistake. That’s all it was… right?

Desires are hidden. Distance is kept. Until one night CJ makes the ultimate sacrifice, and Riley can no longer avoid the man she can’t stop thinking about.

Not with him sleeping down the hall…
