wilderreview  My musings…

Wilder is absolutely everything that I love in a romance novel. It is well-written with interesting characters and engaging plot line, but sometimes a book just has that certain something, that spark, that piece that makes it special, makes it stand out among the rest, and for me the first book in The Renegades series hits the mark.

These characters are more amazing than my words could ever try to explain, but I am going to give it a go. Paxton Wilder is everything that I love in my heroes. He is loyal and kind, brimming with energy, with a slightly cocky swagger, just enough to exude sex and confidence and everything attractive in a hero. His exuberance for life, truly living it and taking chances, makes the reader want to go out and live, too. More than all of this, Pax Wilder wears his heart on his sleeve. His words and actions show how much he loves, and it will leave the reader a swoony mess all of the floor. Equally as charming and wonderful is the heroine, Leah. Her strength and courage to overcome the tragedy in her life showcases the amount of fortitude her character possesses, earning the respect of the reader. She also doesn’t attempt to change Wilder, but supports him in all the things that he loves. Her bravery, her resiliency, and her ability to love without reservation makes her a fantastic heroine for our devilishly charismatic hero.

The chemistry between the Pax and Leah is off the charts in all ways, emotionally and physically. Even though they have some pretty intense sexual encounters, one aspect that Rebecca Yarros pulls off well is that are all centered around real and intense emotions. There is never a time that the reader questions if it is just sex or if it is a “one and done” situation between them. The love, the emotion, the tenderness between the two makes you fall for this duo even more.

More than just these two characters, the whole entire Renegade crew is absolutely phenomenal. I love every single one of them. The love and loyalty among the originals, and the devotion to the success of what they do is idyllic and made me want to join this crazy crew of friends. This group of characters are the kind that the reader is sad to leave. You miss them when the book is over, but are anxiously awaiting the day when you get to see them again with the next book in the series.img_6285

Just like the characters, this plot will completely suck you into the story. I love the tutor falling for the bad-boy extreme sports star story-line. But more than that, Rebecca Yarros keeps the reader intrigued with these surprise plot developments and mysterious mishaps. So many times, I sat staring at my Kindle, blinking, trying to process what had happened or trying to reign in my emotions as the scene unfolded or a brutal heart destroying conversation occurred. A book that can literally stop me and make me draw in a breath is a book that delivers on all aspects of crafting an amazingly suspense-filled plot. And know that when it is all said and done, this author will leave you with an conclusion that these characters deserve and will leave the reader’s heart melting.

After reading this book, there is no question that I am a huge fan of The Renegades series and this author. I cannot wait to see what adventure she takes us on next, but I do know as long as The Renegades are leading the way, it is going to be one crazy and epic ride!

“Is that what you want, Leah?” he asked, his breath hot against my ear, his breathing bordering on ragged.

I whimpered again, answering him with another push of my hips.

He drew back, denying me the pressure I was desperate for. “It’s what I want. Except I want you naked, so I can feel all of your skin against me, taste the tiny beads of sweat I’ll work you into.”

I tried to roll up again, but he brought his hands to my hips, pinning me to the bed. “Paxton,” I whined, trying to reach to kiss him, to get any part of him I could.

“Tell me, I want to hear you say it.”

“Why? You know I want you. Isn’t that enough?” I asked.

His thumbs caressed my hipbones, but I wanted more. Needed more.

“No. I want the words.” He leaned down, dragging his tongue across my lower lip. When I tried to get more, he pulled back, no trace of teasing on his face. “I want to know that I have you on the same fucking edge you’ve had me dangling on for weeks now, desperate to know how you feel, taste, sound when you’re coming apart.”

His words—those sweet, seductive, dirty freaking words turned me up another notch, deepened the pulsing ache I had right where his hips were pressed. How the hell could I keep up with this man?

“Words give you power over me,” I admitted. I tried to roll my hips again, but he held me pinned, immobile. “You’re already the one in control.”

He lowered his head, dragging his tongue from the line of my pajama bottoms, past my belly button, through the valley of my breasts and ending at my neck before he kissed me. There was an edge of desperation to his kiss that hadn’t been there before, like he could kiss my compliance from me.

He damn near did. I would have done almost anything to keep him kissing me like that, but it wasn’t enough. My body was on fire, demanding a release I’d denied it for way too long.

“Control?” he questioned as he pulled away, those blue eyes digging into my soul in a way nothing else could. “Okay, I like being in control, especially when I have you underneath me. But the power is all yours. You just have to realize that I will do whatever you ask, whatever you need. I might control your body, but you control every…part…of… me.” He punctuated each word with a slight thrust against me, the pressure enough to send tendrils of pleasure through my limbs as if he’d caressed my entire body. “Now tell me what you want. I am yours to command.”

“I want your hands on me,” I answered. Then, before he could ask me where, I showed him.
