Travis King has thrown down the gauntlet, and he is laying his claim to the top book boyfriend position. Checkmate: This is Love by Kennedy Fox is sexy, and swoon-worthy, and HOT, so freaking HOT with just the right amount of drama to keep it interesting!
Part of the reason I am so in love with this duet is because of Viola and Travis. Their chemistry is tangible and electric. Every scene, even when they are with other character, has this electrical current running through it between the two of them. This connection is more than just the physical, though. The playfulness, the bantering, the support, and the trust make this relationship so much more than what occurs in the bedroom. And while what happens between the sheets is fun to read, what occurs outside of the bedroom creates authenticity in Travis and Viola’s relationship, as there is never any doubt in readers’ minds how these two feel about each other.
Even though they are combustible together, Viola and Travis are strong enough characters to be fantastic on their own. Viola, with her Harry Potter loving self and her smart mouth, is one of my favorite heroines. Her sass, I love. Every time she gets mouthy or verbally spars with the Travis I internally cheer for her, finding pure entertainment in her game-playing. What I enjoy most though is that Viola is more than this girl that is with Travis. She is a student, a sister, a friend as well, and the writers do a fantastic job fleshing out all of these aspects of her personality to make her seem like a real person who deals with the stresses of life and how they affect relationships. Just like Viola, Travis is also so much more than a hero who is fantastic in bed. He is incredibly handsome and has a body to die for, but what enthralls me most about his character is his intelligence and wit. It is incredibly sexy when he is bantering with Viola, and the tension that mounts between the two is incredible. Even more than his intelligence, Kennedy Fox has created the perfect blend of possessiveness, dominance, and cockiness in Travis. He is fiercely protective of Viola but allows her to make her own choices and gives her the freedom to pursue her dreams. He is dominant in the bedroom, but he also allows her to take control and never crosses lines with her. Travis also has the perfect level of confidence, where it comes across as knowing who he is and being comfortable in his skin versus cocky. But similar to Viola, Travis is more than just his looks, skills in the bedroom, and witty bantering, he also has outside factors affecting him, such as his job, his family, his friendship with Drew. These two well-developed, wonderfully entertaining characters are the number one reason this book is such a fantastic read.
This plot from the opening pages will suck the reader into this world created by Kennedy Fox. What is most enjoyable about this plot is the manner in which these authors develop the story. With the conclusion of Checkmate: This is War, I thought I knew where they were going to go with Checkmate: This is Love, but Kennedy Fox make this story more than the basic trope. It is more than just break-up because the hero did something wrong, hero grovels, and the heroine forgives. Checkmate: This is Love truly showcases the effects of love, the pain when being hurt by those you love, the real-world complications that interfere with love, and, most importantly, how real love can be sustained over time and distance. Checkmate: This is Love honors the characters of Travis and Viola’s story while also bringing the right amount of drama to keep readers engaged fro the opening page. It really is pure reading perfection.
Kennedy Fox is my new favorite writing duo! Their writing is sharp and witty, their stories engaging, and their characters credible and real. I have loved every single minute of this story with Travis and Viola , and I cannot wait to see where they go next with the series!

The anticipated conclusion of The Checkmate Duet from a secret duo of bestselling authors! Checkmate: This is War is an enemies to lovers romance that will have you crying with laughter one moment and screaming in frustration the next… but you’ll be begging to play the game with The King.
Viola Fisher is the epitome of perfection.
She despises my one-night stands and mocks my less-than-classy habits.
She’s smart, beautiful, and too good to be true.
And I want her.
If she were anyone else, I’d have made my move years ago, but considering she’s my best friend’s little sister, she’s always been off-limits. Not to mention how much she loathes my very existence.
Hating me is her religion, but needing her is mine. Her sexy curves and filthy smart mouth make me want her even more, and I’m more determined than ever to change her mind.
I’ll prove I’m done playing games.
But until then, we’ll continue to play by her rules.
Viola Fisher may have won the battle, but the war isn’t over yet.
*Recommend for ages 18+ due to sexual content and adult language.*
