5 F*ckin’ A CROWNS
Major Love by Kate Stewart is absolutely, without a doubt, a GRAND SLAM, utter rom-com PERFECTION! With its endearing characters and blazing chemistry between April and Andy that burns up the pages, readers will be laughing and swooning to pure reader nirvana!
Andy and April steal the show. From the first pages, with the open declarations, readers’ hearts ache for Andy, as well as April, and through these first couple of chapters, Kate Stewart lays the foundation this couple will be built on while also creating sympathy for the characters, causing readers to already root for the two of them to be together.
Not only is the chemistry between the two main characters palpable but these characters are also enjoyable as individually. The male protagonist of the story, Andy, already has the sympathy of the readers based on the conclusion of Anything But Minor, but the rawness of his emotions at the beginning of the truly expresses the depths of his sorrow, only making the reader fall in love with him. Andy, though, is so much more than this opening scene, and there is zero wallowing past the first chapters. He is kind, funny, generous, and lord, oh lord, that mouth! That absolutely dirty mouth had me blushing! And just as memorable and enjoyable is April. The main female protagonist is absolutely everything I adore in female characters. She, as Andy, is also hilarious and kind, but she has this inner-strength to endure heartache, to persevere and keep moving forward to meet her goals, and isn’t afraid to put Andy in his place, which I LOVE! Both of these characters are just endearing in every way, and readers have no choice but to invest in their journey.
The chemistry between these two is completely off-the-charts, smoking, absolutely permeating every scene when they are together. Their connection in and out of the bedroom has presented some of the best dialogue and “good times” I have read, putting this book firmly into one of my top books of the year!
Side note: Alice and Rafe, could I love them more? I don’t think so! I love every single scene they are in together.
The structure and pacing of the plot is just another reason for readers to fall in love with the series. Each and every page serves to develop April and Andy as a couple, even when it is focusing on a single character and his or her issues. The pacing of the story allows the reader to fall in love with them as a couple, as they are falling for each other, making their relationship seem authentic and real versus insta-love. What I absolutely love, absolutely 100% love, about this book is the humor. I openly laughed out-loud so many times during this book. From the moon pies, to pudding, to booty operas (seriously, these are going into my daily routine), to Prime boxes, to honeysuckles provide pure, unadulterated fun and romance.
Kate Stewart has delivered a highly engaging and entertaining story that will have you laughing, providing readers a perfect escape from the world. But more than laughs and romance this book showcases the wonders of love, the desires that burn and drive us in life, and how maybe what we thought were our goals in life just end up being what guides us to what we really need. It is truly a must read!
