Max (Cold Fury Hockey, #6)
by Sawyer Bennett
Release Date: December 13, 2016
4.5 Cinderella CROWNS
Sawyer Bennett is one of my favorite authors. I know that her books will deliver a lot of heart and heat, and Max delivers in all regards, adding a little extra heart for the true romantics in the book world.
Max is the sweetest of the Cold Fury hockey men. From the beginning, it is clear that he has a kind soul and a heart of gold. He sets out to protect and provide for the people he loves. He is unbelievably understanding and patient, but what I love most about his character is his devotion and dedication to what he knows he wants. Once this man decides what or who wants, he goes full force towards achieving that goal, but does so in a way that doesn’t seem pushy. He is patient and lets them come to him on their own terms. He truly is a prince!
Jules is an amazing heroine. She is trying to provide for her niece and nephews, sacrificing everything she wants and even needs to give them what they need. Her devotion to these kids makes her special in the eyes of not only Max but the reader as well. Her one weakness is her pride, and at times I wanted to shake her and tell her to get it together, but her insecurities and concerns are founded. In the end, I couldn’t find fault in her feelings and resulting actions.
I really enjoyed watching the Max and Jules fall in love. It lacked some of the more steamy scenes readers have come to expect from Sawyer Bennett, but I found that I did not miss it as she does a fantastic job focusing on the development of them as a couple.
As with all Sawyer Bennett books, I was hooked from page one, but this one lacks some of the more suspense and drama filled story lines readers may have come to expect from this author. Max, however, matches who Jules and Max are. There is still some tension from secondary characters from the team and a man from Jules’s past, and although they are used to push the plot forward and show the growth of Jules as a character, they are both resolved rather quickly, thus reducing the angst and tension that would inevitably follow.
The Cold Fury hockey team has a special place in my heart as they were my first introduction to Sawyer Bennett. I have adored every single book in the series for the romance and steam she supplies, and Max is no different. His sweet and loving nature will hook you in from the very beginning of the story.

The ice is a cold mistress. As the league’s most eligible goalie, Max Fournier has access to his fair share of willing puck bunnies, but right now he’s more interested in bringing home another championship than a one-night stand. A romantic at heart, Max believes in love; he’s just not great at relationships. So when he finally meets a nice girl who’s not blinded by his celebrity, he’s feeling the heat—and the pressure to save her from herself.
Between working two jobs and raising her sister’s kids, Julianne Bradley doesn’t have time for sports—or men. All she knows about Max is that he’s the sexiest customer to ever grace her gas-station counter. And he sees past her tired eyes and makes Jules yearn for things she can’t have: a glamorous fling, a passionate lover, and the time to enjoy both. Max makes her feel like Cinderella, even though Jules has enough baggage to crush a glass slipper. Luckily, he’s no prince—only a fierce competitor determined to win her heart.
