Aundi’s Musings…

5 Ripped Out My Heart Crowns

So, it took me a couple days after reading this to be able to form words into sentences and try and write this review. Cassie has literally torn out my heart, there is now just an empty cavity where my heart should be. This book will rip through every single emotion and have you crying big ugly ass tears while reading it. You can actually feel your heart shattering and the physical ache it causes making you clench in raw pain. Cassie’s ability to create such a visceral reaction to her stories is one of a kind, it’s the mark of a truly talented author when they can make you feel so completely while reading it’s as if it’s happening to you.

What I love most about this story is the rawness to it. This is not an easy romance it’s not something you pick up on a Saturday just because. This is something that’s pure and honest. Toby has deep issues that he handles by having an addiction. He’s complicated and basically just a tumultuous mess. You can tell just from the opening prologue that he is torn apart from the inside out. His convoluted relationship with his best friend/brothers’ wife and everything that happened has left him a shell of a man. As I already stated he doesn’t cope well he uses drinking as a vice and his life just spirals out of control.

Then he meets Joey, he doesn’t even remember her the first time he wakes up from a binger which sparks a fire in her that calls to him. She is feisty with a quick-witted mouth and she is so very young. But she is also dealing with her own set of demons. Because of this they are incredibly toxic together. They hurt each other over and over because they don’t really know how to be any other way and they don’t really know how to love. They’ve both been broken for so long. Some of the things they do to each other will crush your soul and leave you a teary-eyed mess. But let me tell you the physical connection between them is dirty and raw, you can feel it pulse through the pages like a heartbeat always there underlying everything. And freaking explosive the passion between them is enough to set your Kindle on fire!!!

Cassie has written a brilliantly emotional read that will tear out your very soul, but she will inevitably stitch you back together slowly one page at a time. This book has left an imprint on my very marrow and a part of it will live with me forever. Cassie doesn’t pull any punches, she hits you with a story that is so real and honest that you will break for these characters, but at the end you will see them triumph and it’s that much sweeter because of what they went through to get there.

Cover Reveal: Breathe (Hollow Ridge #2) by CL Matthews

Synopsis:

You’d think five years would be enough time to cope and move on.

It’s not.

If anything, it’s given me more unrealistic ways to deal with my loss.

More pain.

And even worse, a woman I don’t love.
A woman that isn’t her.

I hate her.

She hates me, too.

My life’s a mess.

My heart’s nonexistent.

My soul was lost long ago.

Worst of all, I no longer have any fucks to give.

They say you find your true love after you lose your first one.

I call bullshit.
