 My musings…

5 Sweet CROWNS

My first experience with Christina Lauren was with the Wild Seasons series, and I absolutely fell in love with the characters, the story, and the incredibly heat inducing chemistry in and out of the bedroom.  While Dating You/Hating You is considerably less steamy then the Wild Season series, it still retains all the parts of a fantastic romance: lovable characters, entertaining story-line, and chemistry that is built on more than lust.

This story doesn’t need to have super lust-filled scenes, because the characters and their emotional chemistry driven by their personalities can carry the story on its own.  Carter, to quote the book, is “adorkable” from head to toe.  His has that uber-sexy nerdy thing going on, and I love that he has this charismatic and laid-back, yet confident attitude.  It makes him utterly irresistible.  His counterpart, Evie, is such an independent and driven heroine, which is my favorite type of leading lady. She operates and succeeds in a world driven by men, and she refuses to play their games, well, except for Carter’s.  She exemplifies everything a good heroine should be: confident, intelligent, and hard-working. Evie and Carter together, though, are the perfect complement for each other.  Even when they are fighting with each other, vying for that job, these two still hold onto their integrity when it matters.  Their banter, pranks, and other hi-jinks offer the reader comedic relief as well as develop the chemistry of the couple throughout the book.

The plot of Dating You/Hating You is a slow burn.  A considerable amount of time is dedicated to the initial meet-cute between the couple and the fight for the job as the relationship develops.  Christina Lauren expertly intertwines the office fighting with the affection they feel for each other, allowing readers to be entertained by their foolery while watching them begin to care about each other on a deeper level.  What readers are really going to love is the conflict and the resolution to their story.  The use of outsiders as the conflict is one of my favorite plot choices, and this one is fantastic.  Not only is it an awesome conflict, but the resolution they created also allows their characters to shine while solidifying their relationship and everything readers love about Carter and Evie together.

I couldn’t have loved this book more.  The office romance banter, the affable characters, and the comedic and romantic plot structure makes Dating You/Hating You perfection.

Dating You / Hating You by [Lauren, Christina] Synopsis:

Everyone knows that all’s fair in love and war. But these two will learn that sabotage is a dish best served naked.

The first standalone romance by New York Times and #1 international bestselling author Christina Lauren (Beautiful Bastard) is a sexy, compulsively readable romantic comedy that dives headlong into the thrill and doubt of modern love.

Despite the odds against them from an embarrassing meet-awkward at a mutual friend’s Halloween party, Carter and Evie immediately hit it off. Even the realization that they’re both high-powered agents at competing firms in Hollywood isn’t enough to squash the fire.

But when their two agencies merge—causing the pair to vie for the same position—all bets are off. What could have been a beautiful, blossoming romance turns into an all-out war of sabotage. Carter and Evie are both thirtysomething professionals—so why can’t they act like it?

Can Carter stop trying to please everyone and see how their mutual boss is really playing the game? Can Evie put aside her competitive nature long enough to figure out what she really wants in life? Can their actor clients just be something close to human? Whether these two Hollywood love/hatebirds get the storybook Hollywood ending, or just a dramedy of epic proportions, you get to enjoy Christina Lauren’s heartfelt, hilarious story of romance in the modern world.
