5 Lizzie & Darcy CROWNS
Full disclosure, I never read Ball Peen Hammer, but if you have ever met Keane Morgan, then you have an idea of the antics that occur in the first Morgan Brother book. I did read Captain, the second Morgan brother book, however, and fell in love with it. The writing, the characters, and the story are flawless. It was funny and sexy, just perfect. So, with the third book, Hero, I expected more of the same, and I got sexy, and funny, but I also got more. I got heartbreaking and healing. I got sweet with a large helping of sexy. I got a more serious story with perfect comedic relief. I couldn’t have been more enraptured by it all.
Colby Morgan had my heart swooning HARD from page one. Everything from his profession to the way he is with his siblings to the way he romances a woman had my heart pitter-pattering. I’m not sure there is one flaw in this man. He is self-less, giving, compassionate, and understanding. He struggles in the book physically and emotionally with the love of his heroine, but it is to be expected for their pasts, and he is sensible and adult-like in his ability to reconcile his hangups. Is it weird that that is HOT? Maybe, but, God, how I love that this man is passionate and sensible. Plus, the man has some sexual prowess, the right balance of dirty and sweet (oh Lord, was this man this most delectable kind of dirty). I’m heating up just thinking about him ringing that bell! It has truly been a bit since a hero has knocked me off my feet, and Colby Morgan tackled me to the floor.
Lydia’s character is one of my favorites. Lauren Rowe really hit the right balance of vulnerable and strong. She is able to show how she feels like a failure while with what/who she is left to deal with on her own, but this also shows the incredible strength she possesses. Im not sure I could have pulled it together like she did, and for that, I have so much respect for her as a person. There is an element to her that is broken, even when she thinks she is healed, but she works to fix it, to be free of guilt and the past (there really isn’t a better hero to work on yourself for because Colby is worth it).
The Morgan Family is hilarious. I want to be a member. Can I Lauren Rowe? Write me in a story, give me a nickname, make me a part of this family who loves completely. They support each without question, they joke and pick on each other, and with every conversation the love they feel for each other shines through. I never EVER want their stories to end.
This story is a romance, but it is also a story about self-healing. There is never a minute when the idea is spouted that love will fix it all or the delusion that their feelings for one another will be enough. Both Colby and Lydia know it will be hard and that there will be setbacks, but they also know how they feel for each other is worth it. More than all of that, though, I love how Lauren Rowe doesn’t discount Lydia’s past to make room for Colby. The idea that love is limitless and there is enough for everyone couldn’t have been better articulated through the characters dialogue and actions. It made me love these characters and their story even more.
***there is one part of the plot with a particular character that I expected to pop back up later in the story. I would say that while I wasn’t disappointed it didn’t happen, I think it is an avenue that should have been discussed about. That is a road Lydia and Colby will have to tackle in their life together. It, however, did not change my love of the book. There is still enough conflict and turmoil to keep me engaged and invested in their story.
Perfect. Colby Morgan couldn’t have been any more perfect. These brothers, this family, and this series is hilarious, romantic, and sexy. It is a lethal combination that kills me EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. But death by a Morgan brother would be the absolute best way to go!

A standalone contemporary romance in the MORGAN BROTHERS SERIES from USA Today Bestselling Author Lauren Rowe. The story of firefighter Colby Morgan that proves heroes come in many forms . .
The first time I laid eyes on Lydia Decker, I couldn’t speak. Or breathe. Or string two coherent thoughts together.
And I don’t mean any of that figuratively.
I’m not talking about a guy being floored by the sight of a gorgeous woman—although, of course, Lydia is gorgeous beyond words.
No, when I first laid eyes on Lydia Decker—my physical therapist—I was lying flat on my back in the ICU, high as a kite on painkillers, breathing on a ventilator, my bones as broken and splintered as my spirit.
When I first laid eyes on Lydia Decker, she was a ray of light in the dark. Hope for the hopeless. A salve for my singed and battered soul.
She said she’d been assigned to fix me. That she was there to bring me back to life. She said helping me was her calling.
And then she touched me. Physically, emotionally, spiritually. She healed me.
And I fell in love.
But what I didn’t know . . . what I couldn’t possibly know . . . was that Lydia Decker needed fixing far more than I ever did.
