Ruin by Samantha Towle
5 Ruin Me CROWNS
Samantha Towle’s Ruin is such an entertaining, heartfelt, and sexy read. She has an uncanny ability to put readers in the shoes of her characters, making them feel every single moment, and like Cam, Zeus breaks us and heals us with his determination to win in and out of the ring.
Zeus “The God” Kincaid is the right blend of dominate hero and swoony romance lead. He has a enough testosterone present to make him get protective but never possessive. He respects Cam’s boundaries but never hesitates to tell her what he wants and what is end goal is in regards to her heart and his family. Like most athletic heroes, his stamina in the bedroom is phenomenal, and I love that these moments, especially after the sexy times, is when Zeus is the most vulnerable. This is when readers see him flayed open, and it is often when his hurt shines through, which adds another layer to the confident boxing hero. Then there is his fatherly side. Lord, oh Lord, nobody prepared me for the moments when I would melt into a pile of goo! This man he’s my heart in his hands, and I was unable to resist him, like most of Towle’s heroes.
Cam is an interesting heroine, because I fully understand her need to protect her heart and that of her family. I get that she was burned, hurt, and damaged by this man. When all the details are revealed, readers want her to get over it and get frustrated that she holds onto it, but we also understand her inability to do so. Most humans protect themselves at any costs, and she has an extra person she must factor into the fragile and tenuous reunion Zeus and her have. What really made me a fan of this heroine is that once she is all in, she is all in. She defends, protects, and stands by those she loves, and once Zeus falls into that category, we see the person she has always been underneath the scars he created.
This is the best kind of second chance romance. Their journey is hard. It is filled with misconceptions, lies, and half truths. It is a story of a man who thought he was doing the right thing for his family the girl he loved, and a woman who wants to protect her shattered heart. It is heartbreaking at times, but it is also a story of healing. Zeus may have ruined Cam, but she did the same to him. Their love ruined their ability to be happy without the other in the best way possible, and I couldn’t help the grin that broke out during the final chapters of this book!
I wasn’t ready for this book to be over. I need more Zeus, Cam, Gigi girl, Ares, Lo, Missy, and all the other secondary characters, and not because the story wasn’t finished or we didn’t get an adequate HEA but because I wasn’t ready to leave them or the home they created. This slice of heaven for them was filled to the brim with love and I didn’t want to leave. I wanted to stay and bask in the warmth of it all, so I’m going to cross my fingers Samantha Towle has more stories brewing in her head (please).
