 My musings…

4.5 Glazed Donut CROWNS

With This is Dangerous, Kennedy Fox has created another book that will leave readers dangly, but in way that will leave them craving more versus wanting to kill the authors.

As with the previous main characters in the series, Logan and Kayla are great characters. Logan’s characterization truly fits his last name, KNIGHT. He is sexy and charming, rushing in to save the day. His secret is only going to make readers swoon even more over this man.  Plus, the man’s stamina is unparalleled. Kayla is a very compassionate and giving heroine. She seeks family and love, but doesn’t belittle herself for it, which readers will enjoy about her character. Surprisingly, there are a host of secrets waiting to be revealed, about both characters, and I cannot wait to get my hands on book two to see the continued development of these characters. When these final pieces fall into place, it will be interesting to see their full evolution as characters.

The chemistry as always is great. The internal monologues showcase the back and forth and the will they or won’t they dilemma, creating sexual tension that you could cut with a knife. When they do finally succumb to their desires, it is explosive.

The plot, as with every previous duet in the Checkmate series, is riddled with little inferences about what is to come later as well as in book two. The cliff-hanger, as usually is not what readers expect (I know I didn’t), but most of this book is the exposition and rising action of the full story-line, which covers two books. There is a slow burn component to this one that the previous duets did not have, and while it works for this couple, the slow progression is unexpected. The plot, however, picks up quickly once it gets going, and once I hit this point, it was hard to put down. Even though the pacing and eventual coupling of Kayla and Logan moves at a slower pace, readers will still be dying to get their hands on the final pieces of this duet.

This final book and couple is going to put me through the ringer, and while I don’t feel like I’m on the edge of my seat like the previous books, there are so many unanswered questions and possibilities for book two that I need to know NOW. What I do know now, though, is that Kennedy Fox continues to be a one-click author for me, and I cannot wait for book 2.

Introducing book 1 in the Logan & Kayla saga of the Checkmate series from a secret duo of romance authors who teamed up under the USA Today Bestselling pseudonym, Kennedy Fox! This second-chance romance will have you gasping and cheering this two on from the first to the last page! Are you ready to play the final game?

Logan Knight is a real life knight in shining armor.
A detective godsend in a sleek black suit has me thinking less than secretive thoughts. Brooding and mysterious, he’s the kind of guy every girl instantly notices. Between his seductive smirk and charming good looks, it’s no wonder I can’t help the way he makes me feel whenever I’m near him.
Too bad he’s unavailable—or so he says.

He thinks I’m a do-gooder who shouldn’t get involved with a guy like him. His past is messy and relationships just add to that. He insists the timing is all wrong and he’s devoted to his career, but I don’t buy that excuse for a second. I see the way his body tenses and his jaw ticks every time another guy is around me. He just won’t admit it, but I’m more determined than ever to show him what he’s missing.

I’m a devoted animal rescuer and I’ll risk everything to save them, but when a dramatic turn of events puts both our lives at risk, I’m positive Logan will write me off for good. But when he asks for my help with a personal crisis, I know it’s my last chance to finally show him I can handle anything he throws my way—messy past and all.

He might think he has me all figured out, but I’ll prove him wrong no matter what he thinks. This game of push and pull has me running in circles. One wrong move and we could both lose.

Checkmate, Knight.

*Recommend for ages 18+ due to sexual content and adult language.*

**This is book 1 in the Logan & Kayla Saga–a second-chance romance. You don’t need to read any of the other Checkmate series to enjoy this one, but is always recommended as they are both introduced in the earlier books.**

Happy reading,

  1. This is one of those authors I keep meaning to check out, but haven’t gotten to yet.

  2. I really enjoyed the first part of Logan & Kayla’s story, but that ending just about killed me. I totally didn’t see it coming!
