theprotector My musings…

4 PROTECT ME CROWNS

This is my first book by Jodi Ellen Malpas, and it will not be last.  I thoroughly enjoyed her writing, her characters, and the plot of this story, so much so that I didn’t want to say goodbye to these people.

Jake is everything I love in a broken hero.  In the beginning, he is cold and bitter, working to survive the remnants of his live, but the reader gets to see him change and develop into something more, something better.  His protective instinct for Cami and for the few people he cares about make him more likable, and by the end of this story, the readers heart feels full to the brim for the happiness he has earned.  Even with some immature acts at the beginning of the book, Camille became a heroine I could respect.  She is incredibly loyal to the people she loves, fights to get success on her own, and is at the core a kind and compassionate person.  Her traits never falter, and although Jake physically protects her as her bodyguard, she has no problem being her own hero who also protects Jake just as much as he protects her.  Their journey together becomes about saving each other versus the boy saving the girl, and that is what I love to see in a story.

Their relationship is one initially based on lust, which some readers will not like, but the author creates authenticity in their relationship, making them and the story about more than just two people looking for sex.  Their journey towards becoming a couple, as one can assume, is fraught with trials and tribulations, but seeing the two of them overcome each obstacle together only lends to their development as a couple.  Ms. Malpas takes the time to show the reader how they get to know one another and change and grow together as a couple, emotionally and sexually.  So while the couple may begin chasing their sexual desires and attraction towards one another, the author, through her use of character development and plot progression, shows that there is so much more to this wonderful couple.The-Protector-Quote-Graphic-#3-2

The plot of this story will have you sitting on the edge of your seat.  It is one of intrigue, leaving the reader trying to figure out where the danger is coming from just like Jake.  The author is also able to throw in some plot twists that will shock the reader and change his/her perspective on the whole story, and by the end of the story I wanted to see more of the HEA she creates for this couple.  The plot will immerse you in their world, and the reader won’t want to leave when it is all over.

The Protector is a truly one of the best suspense novels I have read recently.  With its perfectly paced plot and lovable characters I didn’t want it to end.  So if you are in the mood for a hero that will do anything to protect the woman he loves, and heroine who is willing to save her hero from the darkness, The Protector is exactly what you are looking for.

theprotector Synopsis:

THE NEW NOVEL FROM THE #1 BESTSELLING AUTHOR OF THE THIS MAN TRILOGY AND ONE NIGHT TRILOGY!

People think they have Camille Logan nailed: daddy’s girl; beautiful, spoiled young woman with her father’s bank balance to fund her lifestyle. But Camille is determined to have a life free from his strings. Out on her own, she’s made mistakes, including one that found her clawing her way back after a stint in rehab and plenty of bad press. Now, after fighting so hard to be independent and happy, she finds her life threatened as a result of her father’s ruthless business dealings. Caught between resentment and fear, Camille prepares herself for the measures her father will take to protect her. But nothing could prepare her for the ex-SAS sniper who crashes into her life.

Jake Sharp resides in his own personal hell. He was distracted from duty once before, and the consequences were devastating–both personally and professionally. He vowed never to let that happen again. Accepting the job of bodyguard to Camille Logan isn’t the kind of distraction from his demons he should take. Women and Jake don’t mix well, yet protecting the heiress seems the lesser of two evils. But Jake soon discovers that she isn’t the woman she’s perceived to be. She’s warm, compassionate, her presence settling, and his duty to protect her soon goes deeper than a well-paid job, no matter how hard he fights it. He needs absolution. He comes to need Camille. But he knows he can’t have both.

    • The trailer made me want to read the book all over again. Some people aren’t liking Jake as a hero, but I don’t mind an a**hole hero.
