SERIES: Crew #1
4 You Go After One You Go After All Crowns
I absolutely loved the Fallen Crest Series; Mason is still one of my all-time favorite book boyfriends ever. So of course, I was so excited to read Crew and fall back into the world I loved. This is different than FCH its Roussou so you could definitely feel the contrast between the schools. Roussou had crews and Fallen had Mason and Logan. I liked that Tijan had that separation between the two, so it didn’t at all feel like you were reliving FCH but with different characters it’s a whole new world just one that rubs against the Fallen border.
Bren is a dark character she has a lot of demons she lives with daily and she has this darkness that pulls at her from time to time, trying to drag her beneath its surface. It follows her everywhere she goes and when she’s having too many emotions it comes out acting as a shield against those feelings. She’s closed off and has these walls that no one can penetrate except Cross her best friend and Crew member.
I loved the dynamic between them you could tell that they’ve been friends for forever, they always just knew what the other needed. And they provided a never-ending comfort and safety that both of them so desperately desired. The connection between them is strong and unyielding, they are their own unit. Bren needed this she needed him and I’m so glad that she had this steady strength within Cross to rely on and help her even when she didn’t want to admit to needing help.
You don’t really get to know all the much about Cross. You know he’s a shelter for Bren and that they are connected on a visceral level. You know that he’s strong, people are afraid of him and his quiet ferocity. But otherwise you don’t get to know him as a person, what makes him tick what he’s feeling. Because of this I wish that Tijan had made this a dual POV. It would have been nice to know his feelings regarding everything that was going on not just with Bren but with the Crew.
Tijan has crafted an angsty YA novel that will bring out so many differing emotions. The darkness that follows Bren is one that you can connect to on a personal level. The need for family and love that is prevalent throughout with not only Bren but Cross will tug at your heartstrings, leaving you wrung dry by the time your done. These characters and their struggles are heartbreaking. I’m glad to be back in this world again, missing Tijan’s unique writing style and her innate ability to draw you completely into any story and getting you utterly lost to her words.
To survive where I live, you have two options.
You can be a Normal–a cheerleader, jock, member of the debate team, or on the yearbook committee. You pretend everything is normal.
Or you can be crew. You insult us? We hurt you.You hurt us? We really hurt you.And if you screw with us, we will end you.
My name is Bren.I’m the only female in the Wolf Crew–the best, fiercest, and most dangerous crew there is–and we have a rule: There’s no falling in love.
Well… too late.

When I looked up, Cross stood over me, but he wasn’t watching me. He was looking at the reason I’d come out here.
He sighed, sitting next to me. “How’d I know you’d be here tonight?”
“You tracked my phone?” I sat up and grinned at him.
He chuckled, reaching for the whiskey in my hand. The cap was already off, and he took a drink, hissing through his teeth.
“Fuck.” He handed it back.
“Why do you drink that shit?”
I smirked, taking a drink. Unlike him, I enjoyed the burn.
“Why do you?”
“Because you do.”
He said that like it made the most sense in the world.
