Tricia’s Musings…

A first read for me by this author, Crime and Periodicals is a very sweet, and for the most part, light hearted story.

There were aspects of the book I enjoyed and others not so much. Wyatt is a deputy sheriff, recently returned to town with his two young children Mak and Mel. I really liked Wyatt and enjoyed the interactions between him and his adorable daughters very much. In fact, all the kids in this book are great characters and well written.

My favorite parts overall were when Wyatt and Sabrina actually got some one on one time. I found Sabrina a difficult character to warm to, although I did like her. Her inner dialogue did not match her outer persona and it had me chuckling. Despite valiant attempts to overcome it, her social anxiety resulted in her being really awkward most of the time, and rather clumsy. There were many occasions when she tripped or fell, usually into a hard body, which had me rolling my eyes. I was sad to see that this shyness resulted in her being overprotected and treated like a child by the majority of the people around her, despite her being 27 years of age. Whilst this allowed Wyatt in particular to be her knight in shining armor coming to her rescue, rather than endearing her to me I’m afraid I found that rather irritating.

Whilst I can recommend this book for those lovers of cute, heartwarming stories, (and there’s nothing wrong with that), unfortunately this was just too sweet for me. Although I admired Sabrina’s attempts to come out of her shell and stand up for herself, the conflicts didn’t really amount to anything and were quickly resolved. I prefer my stories a little grittier and my heroines a little more bold and sassy.

ARC review

Release Day Blitz: Crime and Periodicals (Green Valley Library #2) by Nora Everly Synopsis:

In Green Valley, Tennessee everybody knows everybody, but nobody knows Sabrina Logan.

Sabrina has been hiding in plain sight for years. Living her life inside of books, dutifully helping her family, and hoping no one will notice her. So far? Mission accomplished!

Yet when sexy—and distrustful—sheriff, Wyatt Monroe returns to town with his daughters, he definitely notices the quiet librarian everyone else overlooks. The single dad can’t seem to shake thoughts of shy Sabrina. Without quite understanding the impulse, Wyatt makes his mission finding her again, so he can… well, he’ll just have to reckon with that later.

What Wyatt discovers is a woman who trusts too easily, but who’s afraid to live. Trust doesn’t come easily to Wyatt. But living? That’s never been a problem.

And he’d sure like to show her how.
