4 devilish CROWNS
Not for nothing is this writer called the queen of angst. The anxiety levels are high almost from the start, as a dramatic event at the beginning of the book sets the tone for the majority of the story. His father’s attempts to shield him from the lifestyle he turned his back on all come to nothing when Cruz is sent down a path he never imagined he would follow, plunged head first into a tale of revenge and redemption.
Although I liked Cruz, I’m not sure I really got a handle on his character, one minute brotherly protector, albeit with a controlling streak a mile wide inherited from his father, the next a ruthless killer. He was a bit of an enigma in my opinion and for me didn’t quite have the charisma of his father. Having said that, I loved his attraction to Sienna and his tenacity where she’s concerned is reminiscent of his parents’ relationship. These Martinez men know what they want and don’t stop till they get it. I particularly enjoyed the chapters from Cruz’s point of view, which were darker in content compared with those from Sienna. Even though Sienna came across as a brat quite often, I actually liked her strength and feistiness and the push and pull between the pair of them. When the basis for her actions, her fears, were revealed, I understood why she reacted as she did when her plans for the future were ripped away from her in quite a dramatic fashion.
The story on the whole was a slow burn, both in respect of the relationship and plot progression, and because of this it did take me some time to get into it. It’s definitely more story line focused and therefore is not as steamy as I was expecting. I particularly loved the action at the end of the book, when a big old plot twist I absolutely did not see coming was revealed. All in all an enjoyable and entertaining story. I can’t wait to read more from this world of mafia.
3.5 Principessa Crowns
This is the first book that I have read from M. Robinson and even though this is technically a Standalone I feel like I would have had more of a connection to the characters had I read El Diablo first. Having said that, M. Robinson delivers an intensely dangerous and gritty romance that is filled to the brim with edge of your seat violence and destruction Mafia style.
Crucifixio aka Cruz Martinez is the son of Alejandro Martinez who has tried his best to keep him out of this lifestyle. He never wanted either of his children brought into this world. But as the story unfolds and things happen there’s no holding the devil back from his return. Crucifixio is beyond ruthless, he takes out all enemies with swift precision and no mercy. Anyone he perceives as a threat or does not give him the answers he is looking for ends up dead in the most brutal ways. Since I didn’t read El Diablo I have no idea if he is worse or better than his father. Either way his brutal proficiency takes out many on his path to his sister. Despite his callousness he meets and immediately wants Sienna Luciano princess to the Italian Mafia. His attraction to her is fierce and intense, there is no escape for this princess once you are in the sights of the devil himself. His interactions with Sienna show you the more human side to Crucifixio, you can tell he really does care for her and would give her anything her heart desires. She isn’t just a possession to him, but the light in his dark world. Which had me falling in love with him, both sides to this man are so intense and filled with so much emotion you can’t help but fall for him.
Sienna for me fell a little flat. I couldn’t tell if she really cared for him at all, especially since she spent 90% of the book fighting with him. I needed to feel that bond between them to make this feel like a romance and not just an arranged marriage with no passion. Sienna also made some seriously poor choices that irritated me to no end. I get that this wasn’t the life that she wanted but she grew up in this world and either she is so naïve she didn’t think bad things would happen, which isn’t possible because she stated multiple times that the violence and danger is why she wanted out or she’s just impulsive and does not think things through. Either way it bothered me to no end. She’s the main reason I couldn’t give this book more stars. I just could not get over how she was, and ultimately the connection that I crave in my romances just was not there.
M. Robinson has crafted a devilishly dark and gritty book that takes you into the underbelly of the Mafia, which is filled with violence and anger. Crucifixio is magnificent in his role as the new El Diablo but it’s the side that he shows Sienna that really tugs at your heart and makes you fall in love with him.

The sins of the father became those of the son.
Wrath for taking what was precious to me.
Greed for the lives that were mine to kill.
Sloth for the destruction against their will.
Lust for revenge and the blood I’d spill.
Gluttony for the souls I craved.
Envy for the spirits I had yet to take.
Pride for the birthright I’d soon fulfill.
She was all it took for me to lose my focus.
Sienna Luciano, my eighth deadly sin.
It was the end of me, but not my legacy.
It was only the beginning of…
El Diablo’s resurrection.
Allow me to introduce myself.
I’m Crucifixio Martinez.
