#Review “Lilac” by B.B. Reid

One world tour. Three rock gods. Their gutsy new guitarist who talks back. Rules are Bound to be broken.

Sarah’s Musings…

Full disclosure, I don’t read REVERSE HAREM. It isn’t my jam. I need a couple to end up together even if there are others along the way, but when one of your faves writes an RH NOVEL, you follow. Let me tell you, I would have missed out on a spectacular story.

Each one of these characters has something special. Houston with his stolid and unwavering leadership and authority, Loren with his charisma and playboy recklessness, and Jericho with his kindness and intensity force you to love them. You become fully immersed in these men. You feel the draw to each of them for different reasons, which makes you able to truly understand why Braxton is drawn to them all.

I also kind of get the appeal of an RH book. There is a sexual freedom and liberation in these novels. You can live your wildest fantasies, and one women is the center of attention, devotion, and gratification. It is alluring and enthralling.

That is also why I loved Braxton from page one. This heroine has gumption. She pushes and shoves back with this boys. She demands equality from them and doesn’t acquiesce when times get rough. She is fierce enough to handle 3 flawed and broken rockstars, and I loved every part of her.

I think what really made Lilac a must read for me, and what makes it more than an RH novel delving into feminine fantasies, is the driving idea behind the story. These characters who once loved each other have been broken, and this journey of healing and redemption and love is wrought with trials and tribulations. Through it all, though, BB Reid exemplifies that real love will shatter and break but it will heal, even when the cracks remain. That is love. It is forgiving and demanding, it is consuming and liberating. The themes and topics that center around love and acceptance moved me. It resonated with my own heart and ideas about love. More than anything I loved the unconventional nature of these four, and the fact that they have zero cares for anyone else’s opinion. They seek happiness and love no matter the consequences or judgments they receive, and that is something that many readers will connect with.

Lilac was so much more than I ever expected. Since it is a true Reverse Harem, I had some assumptions, but I never expected the heart and depth that accompanied the heat factor of Lilac. It tore at my heart, it made me remember the perseverance and healing power of real love, and it epitomizes that it comes in all shapes and sizes. Happiness in life, living with love in your heart is all that matters.

Its official B.B can legit write anything, this may have been her first foray into RH but it reads as if she’s done it a million times. This story will grab you by the throat and yank you straight into the most addictive and consuming reverse harem that I’ve read in a long time. This is one THICK book (see what I did there) but you won’t even be able to notice, you’ll be so entranced by the characters and their journey that time will cease to exist, you will LIVE, SLEEP, BREATH, EAT ALL THINGS BOUND!!!

One of the things I loved most about this story is that B.B meticulously and unquestionably gave each character their own personality. This book was written in 4 viewpoints and each and every time the chapter read exactly as it should based on whomever was the story teller behind that specific chapter. That really helped to individualize them and give them their own voice, the chapters didn’t blend together, and it never felt like the same person was talking the whole time. Jericho, Houston, Loren, and Braxton you could feel each of them breathing from the pages and wrapping their thoughts and feelings around you, it was utterly addictive. Sometimes multiple POV’s get a little confusing and you end up losing some of the book but the transitions between the views were seamless, you never lost track of who was talking or what was happening.

If you’ve never read RH before than hands down, I would start with this one. This book will without a doubt make you an instant lover of the troupe, causing you to immediately find more to devour. B.B walked in and dropped the mic with her first run at this genre and I for one am so delighted that she did. I wish that I could go back and read this again for the first time, but alas that’s not possible so instead I’ll have to be content with rereading this beautifully crafted, meticulously written, undeniably addictive romance again and again! This book blew all the other Must Reads of 2020 out the window for me, replacing them all at the top spot! Bravo B.B for taking the chance on RH and freaking nailing the result.

I, Braxton Fawn, am the luckiest girl alive.

Or so the world keeps telling me.

Every so often, gods walk the earth. This time they came as musicians.

When Bound loses its lead guitarist, yours truly is chosen to fill his shoes. From dive bars to the big stage, my instant claim to fame is nothing short of a fairytale. The only problem?

My new bandmates.

Jaded, gorgeous, and ridiculously talented—they’re determined to turn my dream into a nightmare. It’s no secret I wasn’t their first choice. I wasn’t even their last. The label wants a new image, Bound wants me gone, but I’ve got my own agenda.

To succeed I have to survive a world tour, public scrutiny, and idols turned enemies. But the biggest threat of all isn’t a meticulous frontman, a narcissistic bassist, and a drummer with too many secrets.

It’s me.

Somehow, I must resist the temptation of Houston Morrow, Loren James, and Jericho Noble.

It seemed easy enough when I boarded their tour bus, but it only took one city for the lines we’d drawn to blur.

Only ninety-nine more to go.
