Title: Happily Ever Ninja
Author: Penny Reid
Series: Knitting in the City
Release Date: January 19, 2016
Normally, I select a more recent release or upcoming release for Teaser Tuesday, but this week I chose to pull from a novel published earlier this year because Penny Reid decided to send out an email reminding me of this amazing story. Then I started looking at lines I highlighted and skimming my favorite parts, and I just couldn’t help myself. My love of this book took over, so there you have it. Teaser Tuesday this week is a direct result of Penny Reid’s newsletter!
I adore this book, well, to be honest, really anything that is written by Penny Reid! Without giving away plot details, I will warn you that the events of the story are outrageous, not acts the “average couple” deals with, but the conflicts between the Greg and Fiona are real. The struggle to balance life and love is real, and the need to be and feel wanted and desired is an idea expressed in this story and throughout the history of literature. I found myself laughing at arguments and thinking of times when my husband and I fought about a similar topic. While the characters are unlike anyone I have ever known, I related to them as a couple and individually on so many levels.
Penny Reid’s ability to take this unusual couple and plot line and make it relatable pulled me into the story, and it is refreshing to read about a married couple that isn’t centered around cheating, a deceased spouse, or other illicit activities!
If you have given this story or series a try, make sure you check it out. You won’t regret meeting this group of girlfriends!
There are three things you need to know about Fiona Archer… I would tell you what they are, but then I’d have to kill you.
But I can tell you that Fiona’s husband—the always irrepressible and often cantankerous Greg Archer—is desperately in love with his wife. He aches for her when they are apart, and is insatiable when they are together. Yet as the years pass, Greg has begun to suspect that Fiona is a ninja. A ninja mom. A ninja wife. A ninja friend. After fourteen years of marriage, Greg is trying not to panic. Because Fiona’s talent for blending in is starting to resemble fading away.
However, when unexpected events mean Fiona must take center stage to keep her family safe, her response stuns everyone—Greg most of all. It seems like Greg’s wish has come true.
When all is said and done, can Greg handle this new version of his wife? Will his irrepressible cantankerousness push her away? Or can the couple find a way forward without either being forced to step back into the shadows?
This is a full length, 100k word novel, and is the 5th book in the Knitting in the City Series. All books in the series can be read as a standalone except book #1.5
